Corporal Ted Tappenden was one of the famous glider troops of the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, who captured Pegasus Bridge in the first minutes of D-Day. Corporal Tappenden was Major Howard's radio operator. Major Howard would order Cpl Tappenden to send out the signal to the paratroopers that the bridges over the Orne river and canal were captured intact. That message was ... HAM and JAM...HAM and JAM...!!!
