This year, I have made extra poppies. All profits from the sale of the red poppies are donated to Royal British Legion, and profits from the sale of the purple poppies are donated to Murphy's Army charity.
Each poppy is hand knit from 100% British Wool, felted then sewn together. Because of the felting process, each poppy is slightly different. The leaf is positioned at 11 o'clock and all have a stem.
Measurements vary from poppy to poppy. The red ones measure between 4cm and 4.5cm across (not including the leaf or stem) and the purple ones measure between 4.5 and 5cm across. (If you purchase one of each, I will try my best to supply them in similar sizes!!) A brooch back, with safety catch, is stitched onto the reverse. £5.50 each (plus UK postage of £1.20 for any number of poppies). There are 8x Red and 8x Purple available.

Althea Crome makes her own knitting needles from surgical wire, some as small as .01 inches; she uses a fine silk sewing thread, rather than yarn, to achieve the tiny stitches that compose her works. Her needles can accommodate more than 80 stitches per inch.

'Drumachloy'

in 100g balls. A Rich Brown Tweed Wool with neps of red, orange, green, dark blue etc. 100% Scottish Wool from the Isle of Bute, Double Knitting thickness. 100g = approximately 225m. Batch: B7606

The main yarn has a wavy texture, held in place with a thin, dark binder thread. Brand new, quality wool ideal for knitting, crochet, craft or felting projects (it felts beautifully).

Also available in Dark Green Tweed - 'Mountstuart'

It has a natural wool texture so is ideal for jumpers, cardigans, jackets, outer clothing, bags, accessories, hats, cushion covers, throws etc etc etc. It smells of the oil used for spinning, which is removed after the first gentle wash once it's knit up.

Balls are wound using wool winder. No ball bands/labels.
Aftercare: To avoid shrinking, handwash gently in cool water. Re-shape while damp and dry flat away from direct heat. Do not tumble dry. Very cool iron if needed.

Please Note: This wool has a natural texture. It is NOT superwash wool and is therefore not as soft as superwash wools can be. (Superwash wool is softer because the wool has been placed in an acid bath to remove the 'scales' from the fibre. It is then coated with a polymer which means the wool can be machine washed without shrinking). The texture of this 100% Scottish Sheep Wool is much more natural; it still has its scales as it hasn't been treated with acid nor coated with polymer; much kinder to the environment!
