Bains Healthcare Providing Pharmacy and Optical services Being an independently run family business, we at Bains Pharmacy pride ourselves on our service.

Bains Pharmacy Healthcare has been established since 1997 by Mr Bains Snr (Superintendent Pharmacist), and has successfully been providing many healthcare services as well offering a shop full of 'goodies', as the local community would refer to it. Fact of the week

The cornea — the clear front surface of your eye — receives much of its oxygen directly from the air rather than through blood vessels.

This is one reason why healthy tears, regular blinking and a healthy eye surface are so important for maintaining comfortable, clear vision.

During a comprehensive eye examination, we don’t just check how clearly you can see. We also assess the overall health of your eyes, including the cornea and other structures that play a vital role in protecting your vision.

Many eye conditions develop gradually and may not cause noticeable symptoms in their early stages, which is why regular eye examinations remain one of the best ways to help protect your long-term eye health.

Fact of the week

Surprisingly, the eye itself contains no pain receptors.

When we experience eye discomfort, irritation or pain, it is often the surrounding structures — such as the cornea, eyelids and nerves around the eye — that are responsible for sending pain signals.

This is one reason why persistent discomfort, redness, watering, light sensitivity or changes in vision should never be ignored.

A comprehensive eye examination can help identify underlying issues and ensure your eyes remain healthy and comfortable.

Fact of the week
Your pupils constantly adjust in size throughout the day to control how much light enters the eye.

This automatic response helps maintain comfortable vision in different lighting conditions and supports how clearly we see our surroundings.

If you’ve noticed increased light sensitivity, glare or changes in visual comfort, a comprehensive eye examination can help assess how your eyes are functioning.

Fact of the week
Your eyes are designed to detect movement extremely quickly — often before your brain has fully processed detail.

This ability helps with reaction time, balance and awareness of your surroundings in everyday life.

If you’ve noticed changes in focus, clarity or visual comfort, a comprehensive eye examination can help ensure your eyes are performing as they should.

Fact of the week
Your eyes constantly work together with your brain to create a single clear image of the world around you.

This coordination helps with depth perception, focus and everyday visual tasks — often in just milliseconds.

If you’ve noticed double vision, difficulty focusing or eye strain, a comprehensive eye examination can help assess how well your eyes are working together.

Fact of the week
When using digital screens, we tend to blink less frequently, which can lead to dry, irritated or tired eyes.

This is one of the most common causes of visual discomfort, especially with prolonged screen use.

If you regularly experience eye strain, dryness or headaches, a comprehensive eye examination can help identify the cause and ensure your vision is as comfortable as possible.

Fact of the week
Your eyes gradually adapt to darkness, but it can take up to 20–30 minutes for your vision to fully adjust.

This is why moving from bright environments into low light — such as night driving — can temporarily affect how clearly and comfortably you see.

If you’ve noticed glare, difficulty seeing in the dark, or slower adjustment between light and dark environments, it may be a sign your eyes need checking.

During a comprehensive eye examination, we assess your overall visual performance, including how well your eyes function in different lighting conditions, and can advise on solutions to improve clarity and comfort — particularly at night.
