Nomads Wales was founded in 1992, inspired by my adventurous overland journey to Australia in 1972, during which I traversed Europe, Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Thailand, and Indonesia. For many years following my travels, I earned a living by crafting and selling handmade clothing at local markets and festivals, including the renowned Glastonbury Festival, which I began attending in 1979, as well

as Womad and numerous other events. However, as my family continued to grow, I found it increasingly challenging to keep up with the demand for my handmade products. In 1990, I made the decision to return to India and Nepal to source an array of clothing, handicrafts, and unique artefacts from these beautiful regions, laying the groundwork for what would become Nomads Wales.

Many of you will know that my daughter Emily has been working on a small slow-fashion collection inspired by our family journeys, textiles and India.

The first Natural Nomad collection has left India and is now on its way to Wales.

We’re excited to hopefully have some Natural Nomad clothing in Nomads Carmarthen later this summer.

Emily here — Roni’s daughter — just a small update.

I’ve recently been back in Rajasthan, sitting on floors again, going through cloth properly and working on the first Natural Nomad pieces.

It’s not about choosing quickly. It’s about checking weight, feel, repeat, and how it will actually wear.

Nothing has gone into production yet — I’m still refining.

This beautiful Block Printed handmade winged arm chair is hand loomed from 100% recycled cotton fabric upholstery, with skilled crafted embroidery which highlights the diamond pattern and sustainable mango wood legs set off the prominent textile beautifully. Made in India.
