The spirit of DIY is strong

Just a follow up from our previous post. At the time of writing, our crowd funder has hit an amazing £840 against the £2,000 target!!! In such a short amount of time, we can't believe the generosity we have seen and are totally humbled and overwhelmed by the support. We really appreciate the love we are seeing. Thank you so so much. 😍😍

Just a reminder, we are Crowdfunding so as to raise money to purchase Sound equipment (PA, Mixer, Mics, Graphic Equaliser and Guitar Amplifier). We would be very grateful if you could help in any way possible here:

More about us: NAWR ABERTAWE is a concert series in Swansea of new, experimental and improvisation music. Our concerts (71 to date) are often held at the Tangled Parrot record shop, Abertawe. We have also programmed our concerts, at venues such as Tŷ Tawe, BBC Hall, Volcano Theatre, Mission, Elysium and Glynn Vivian Galleries. We aim to offer a welcoming, open and reflective space for an audience to experience new music with a gender-balanced line-up. Since we began ten years ago, we have strived to position Welsh (or Welsh based) musicians and composers alongside renowned international practitioners. We are excited to be working towards our 5th NAWR festival in November.

We're chuffed to announce we're stocking the new release "With Love" by the jazz experimentalists Sly & The Family Drone!

The quintet are back again with a new slab of avant-guardism for this album, which was originally meant for release on Valentine's Day and even saw a limited pressing with a pillow-style sleeve (which sold out - Charlotte Church got one!). For those who love their jazz wild and free-form, ...the Family Drone are for you.

They're also well known for their incredible and unhinged live shows, which I've been lucky to witness myself and still consider it one of the best shows I've ever seen - they play in the middle of the crowd, surrounded by amps/speakers, Matt often standing and screaming on top of amps and even handing out parts of their drumkit to the crowd to play along.

And for our second live instore announcement today: we'll be hosting GWEN (of Adwaith) performing her debut album "UMA" IN FULL on the 30/10/26!

If you've been with us for a while, you know Adwaith has a huge history with the shop and we've been proud to support them since the beginning, so it's exciting to see GWEN spread her wings to fly solo.

Drawing inspiration from the fearless experimentation of Kim Gordon and Björk, the rhythmic freedom of Lizzy Mercier Descloux and CAN, and the immersive sonic worlds of Nine Inch Nails, Tricky and Massive Attack, "UMA" feels both immediate and timeless.

We hope you're as excited as we are to hear this new material in a live setting (unless you were lucky enough to see her at Green Man Festival).
