Cornish holiday 2026 weave.
I get to indulge my weaving whims during my annual holiday week each year. Nothing complicated so I can dip in sporadically. This year it was weaving chunkier than my usual 4-ply British wools and using 100g of Irish Donegal wool in each of 3 colours which had been in my stash for years.
I borrowed a 24” wide 5dpi Rigid Heddle from my wool buddy and designed a tartan which used exactly the same amount of each colour.
By the time I finished weaving the 2.5m warp I had exhausted the original yarns so managed to also use up other lovely odds and ends in the same colour palette including precious yarns hand-spun by friends.
Decided to escape my hot studio and work from home, so an opportunity to complete the project.

Wedding Ring Cushion. This piece was the culmination of a wonderful commission to design fabric for the Groom’s outfit in the plaid which forms his ‘branding’ as a professional musician. I made it from a scrap of the leftover fabric as a Wedding Gift.

I love the opportunity to work with a breed I’ve not used before. This gorgeous 4-ply plant dyed wool yarn from Perthshire Wool’s Beltex sheep just arrived in the post. It will go onto a hand-weaving loom to be woven into a fabric sample to illustrate how a yarn technically spun as a knitting yarn has potential for weaving.

The new blanket in GatherWool’s contemporary collection is now available to purchase from their website and selected retail outlets. They have named it The Lydart.
This design developed from some handwoven sampling that was on my loom when the client visited. I was testing out each of the 3 colours used in the contemporary collection to see how each looked with the two neutral options of grey and white… and the client loved the idea of all 3 in one blanket.
