This is my long overdue review of the lovely Diana dress - sorry Tash! I went against the recommended fabrics and used a viscose, simply because I had it in my stash! But I think it’s worked out pretty well and was not too difficult to work with. I made a toile of the bodice, just to check for fit. I was glad I did, as I found I had to amend just the front and raise the princess shaping as it was far too low for me. This meant amending across the revere as well, and I still don’t think the fit is quite right for me. If I make it again (and I’m sure I will), I think I’m going to change the princess seaming to come from the shoulder, as I don’t think coming from the armhole is the most flattering for me personally. I love the fit at the back and the swing of the dress it feels really lovely on. I should also probably take it in a little more on the waist, I think you can see from the photographs that it’s a little loose, especially from a front view. I made a size 10. The instructions are fabulous, beautifully clear, comprehensive and well written with very clear diagrams, a joy to follow. I did do one or two things differently. I sewed my facing and bodice side seams all in one as for the sleeveless version. I interfaced the back, the side backs and front side facing in a softer interfacing than the front and collar facings. I also hung my dress up for about 48 hours before doing the hem as I found the hemline dropped considerably, particularly at sides because of the flare. After levelling I hemmed the dress using lace, I also did this on the sleeve hems (see photos), which I thought gave a nice touch. I think it’s a great pattern, not for a beginner as the collar/rever is quite complex which needs careful stitching. There are lots of pattern pieces to cut out and careful preparation is required. However, Natasha talks you through it all really well. I think I shall wear it a lot come the springtime. I have some dark charcoal wool fabric in my stash which I think would look really nice in the sleeveless version - watch this space! Thank you Natasha :)
