Over 40 Years of Making Coats in Northamptonshire

In 1985, Chrysalis began making outerwear in Northamptonshire. Not in a factory overseas. Here. In England. With the intention of making something that would last.

Forty years is a long time in fashion.

The county has not changed. The commitment has not changed. And somewhere out there, a coat made in our workroom decades ago is still being worn by someone who has never once considered replacing it.

That is the only measure of success that has ever really mattered to us.

Made in England. Since 1985.

Meet The Flight Jacket - your all-seasons companion.

A wool and linen blend that breathes in the warmth and holds its own against the chill, worn here open and relaxed over a navy polo, and looking exactly as good as it feels.

No overthinking. No changing for the weather. Just reach for it and go.

Made in England.

From Bolt to Finished Coat

From the bolt on the shelf, to the cutting table, through the hands of our seamstresses, past the pressing iron and the final inspection - every coat we make travels the same unhurried road before it ever reaches you.

The Pressing and Steaming

One of the last things that happens before a Chrysalis coat leaves Northamptonshire.

The pressing. The steaming. The final pass that sets every seam, sharpens every edge and gives the finished coat that quiet authority it carries when you first put it on.

Unhurried. Unrushed. Done properly, as it always has been.

Then it is ready. And so are you.

The Cutting Table

Before a single stitch is sewn, there is this.

Bolts of tweed laid flat, pattern pieces positioned with care, each cut made with the kind of precision that cannot be rushed. Get it wrong here and no amount of skill at the machine will put it right.

It is the part nobody sees. It is also the part that everything else depends on.

Made in England. From the very first cut. 🌿

This photograph was taken in 2022. It could just as easily have been taken today.

The sand colourway, the generous patch pockets, the relaxed but considered cut … none of it dates.

Proof, if it were needed, that the best pieces in a wardrobe are the ones that simply work year after year, occasion after occasion.

Timeless. Made in England. 🌿

Olive windowpane tweed over a navy suit, brass buttons, leather collar detail and a red stripe tie that somehow ties the whole thing together perfectly.

British tweed, worn with confidence, and absolutely no rules.

The houndstooth. The Chrysalis buttons. The collar turned just so against the wind. Layered over a chunky knit and a crisp white shirt, effortless in the way that only something really well made can be.

Made in England. Worn like this. 🌿

Look closer.

That is a herringbone weave in the most beautifully understated grey and white, each chevron sitting perfectly against the next, the kind of pattern that draws the eye without ever demanding attention.

The quality is in the cloth, in the cut, in the weight of it when you put it on.

A coat that will still look exactly like this in twenty years. Possibly better.
