For years, slow fashion has focused on celebrating craft.
We’ve documented the block prints, the embroidery, the weaving, and the knitting. We’ve shared the techniques and the processes behind making clothing by hand. Rightly so.
But we’ve often stopped short of telling the stories of the people behind them.
The women and men who make our clothes remain largely invisible.
You may wear a garment made by their hands every day, yet never know their name, hear their voice, or understand what their life is really like.
We think that needs to change.
At BANJAARA, we want to use our platform to help bring these voices closer to the people who wear their work. To create space for the women behind our clothing to be seen, heard, and recognised for the role they play in fashion.
We also believe the people who make our clothes should have a more direct voice in shaping the industry’s future. Their experiences, perspectives, and ideas deserve to be part of the conversation. By sharing their stories, we hope to help create a fashion industry where those on the front line are not only heard, but recognised as agents of positive change.
This film follows Sushila through a typical day in her life ~ her family, her commute, her work, and the moments in between.
Because the story of fashion is not just about how clothing is made.
It’s about the people who make it.
This is the first chapter in a much bigger journey for us. The first of many stories we hope to share.
