I’m going to miss my few days in my happy place this August. I’ve had a pop up gallery in the Fisherman’s shelter in Portscatho for over 10 years! Having spent many a happy hour chatting with lovely customers and general passers by, oh and the odd dog or 2. I’m hoping I can get back there next summer 🌞

So a quick update,I’m doing really well! I’m on round 4 of 6, then will have radiotherapy after. I’m very tired but have learned ( albeit slowly 😃) to pace myself and I’m just taking it day by day. Anyway I’m over halfway through! Again I’m reminded of how well supported I am, by both family and friends and obviously my medical team. I’m very lucky! 🤗😊

Looking across the fields at the moment, they are awash with such colour. So many greens and I love the vibrant yellow as the R**e seed oil flowers. Happy to say these two pictures have recently found new homes, thanks to in Padstow. A change of scene on my grid after all the excitement of Tulip mania. Over the next few weeks I’m hoping to be working on some seascapes to restock in the near future 🤞( I’ll be pacing myself, chemo round 2 allowing) 🪡🧵

‘Tulipa Helmar’
Isn’t it stunning? During our time , I have to say I’ve learnt a thing or two about tulips! 😃
Here’s a few fascinating tulip facts. ⬇️
‘Tulip mania’ reached its peak in Holland in January 1637, when the most sought-after tulips cost thousands of guilders per bulb, reaching as much as 10,000 guilders for a single bulb. This was enough to buy a house in the most desirable district of Amsterdam.

A large part of the fascination with tulips was down to the way they could sometimes transform from a single colour to a flamed flower, in contrasting colours, the following season.

Unfortunately, the flaming was caused by a virus which wasn’t discovered until the 1930s. It weakened and eventually killed the bulbs!
Who knew those stripes were caused by a virus? 🤷‍♀️

So with not quite a week into Tulip mania , we are delighted to share a snapshot of the artworks that have already gone to their forever homes. If you still plan to visit, rest assured there will still be beautiful artwork on display in the Slop’t Parlour right up until 4th May. We have to say, we have been overwhelmed with the response to our exhibition and are truly grateful! .englefield.art
