Life is incredibly challenging in our rescue world at the moment. We are faced with enormous difficulties as we work so hard to help as many animals as we possibly can. The requests to take animals are relentless and the phone calls, messages and emails keep coming. Due to limits on foster spaces we are turning dozens away and this is incredibly distressing for both us and for the many owners who are desperate to place their animals for sometimes heartbreaking reasons. We don’t have kennels so can only rely on our team of Fosterers.
Sadly many of the animals we are taking in are increasingly in very poor condition, some needing extensive surgery or long term care to make them well enough to be adopted. They are staying in their foster homes longer, bed blocking so to speak, which means that we don’t have the capacity to take any more than the most desperate cases.
Our vet bills are off the scale. Last months bills totalled over £39,000. A vast amount of money for a small rescue with no paid fundraisers to cover. We are so proud to say that in 20 years we have never turned an animal away because of the cost of the care they would need. Never because they were too sick, too damaged, too broken. We have worked tirelessly to raise the funds needed, we have appealed for your help for some of them and we have always ensured each and every one had the best care and every chance regardless. The toll on us is enourmous but the price the animals will pay if we don’t do all we can is far higher.
Homes are scarce and in short supply for healthy animals. For those with ongoing health problems they are adopted on an assisted adoption agreement. We continue to cover the cost of their health issue for life. That’s a huge commitment and responsibilty but it means that each animal finds a family and a home that would otherwise not happen.
Our volunteers are incredible. They work so so hard. No one receives monetary payment for their time and commitment. They do receive the reward of seeing animals living and thriving in forever homes as in the post below.
If you could help us in any way we want to hear from you. We are desperate for help. We need Fosterers, shop staff for our charity shops, help with fundraising events, help with street collections, help with online selling, help with things we can sell or maybe hold a raffle or coffee morning or a sponsored event. Help with admin or taking calls or 100 other ways. We can’t pay you but you will know that your support will help us achieve more Happy Endings and Fresh Beginnings for the animals that need us.
