Cromer Seamstress About Cromer Seamstress: Katy returned to her hometown of Cromer in 2023 after 15 years away working in the professional costume industry.

She spent 4 years touring with large musicals around the UK and Europe, such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Evita, Sister Act and Hairspray, before working in the West End. Her last 8 years were spent as the Head of Wardrobe for The Play That Goes Wrong. Additionally, Katy is a cost

ume maker and has made costume for The Globe, The National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and many more, (examples of work can be found on Instagram ). Katy completed her first knitting project age 8 and made her first piece of clothing age 13. She has been sewing and learning ever since and is excited to be able to share her experience with others. Having settled into life back by the sea, Katy has set up a small business as Cromer Seamstress, alongside costume making Katy does local alterations and repairs, delivers workshops, sewing events and retreats, and gives private sewing and knitting tuition.

BOOKING SOON! Sewing for Home & Lifestyle Classes from June 2026, Wednesdays 10am–12pm at Sheringham Community Centre.

These weekly classes are a chance to bring along your own sewing ideas and projects — from home décor and gifts to repairs, upcycling, soft furnishings, and creative makes for your home and everyday life. If you’re not quite sure what project you’d like to do, just get in touch and I’d be happy to help you plan or source something suitable.

Perfect for anyone who can already use a sewing machine and would like to build confidence, learn new skills, and enjoy sewing in a relaxed and friendly class. I’ll be available throughout the session to offer top tips, advice, and guidance on new projects, challenging makes, or techniques you’d like to learn.

Seen something on Pinterest, Etsy, or social media and thought “I’d love to make that”? ✂️ This is the perfect place to give it a go.

Complete beginner? Get in touch to find out about classes for learning how to use a sewing machine.

Booking available soon — join the mailing list to hear about new classes and events first.

Hello Everyone,

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2026, I’m offering a free extra place across a few selected sewing and yarn craft sessions, from 11th-17th May

Book one ticket and bring a friend along for FREE

Included sessions:
• Monday Sewing Café
• Friday Morning Knitting & Crochet Classes
• Sunday All Day Sewing Retreat

Whether you fancy a catch-up over sewing, time for knitting or crochet, or a full creative day, come for the company and a creative atmosphere.

Creative activities like sewing, knitting and crochet are increasingly recognised for supporting wellbeing by reducing stress, improving focus, and encouraging social connection — so if you have a friend who’s been curious to try it, or simply needs a little encouragement to come along, this is the perfect opportunity.

One booking admits two people, (must include the ticket holder).

I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and hopefully a few new ones too.

Best wishes,

Katy

When Debs at the Cliftonville asked me to knit a crab for their Cromer Crab and Lobster Arts trail display, I was more than happy to oblige!

I got this wonderful knitting kit from Craft Room, Cromer. The pattern was brilliant. As most of knitting work is private commissions it was lovely to stick to what was on the page! The whole pattern book comes with the kit so I’ll definitely do the lobster now 🧶😍

The Cliftonville are excellent hosts and a brilliant venue for my creative classes.

There’s Knitting and Crochet every Friday morning 10-12pm. Come and join us to learn how to knit/ crochet, try a new technique or bring your project for a social wool lovers morning.

It is also where we have the popular Monthly Sewing Retreat. This event has all day tickets, as well as sessions, to allow yourself some dedicated sewing time with good company and help if needed.

Next Sewing Cafe: Monday 27th April

Bring your project or new technique along to the Sewing Café on Monday. There are morning and afternoon sessions, or you can book the whole day if you’d like some proper, dedicated sewing time. Tutor on hand if needed for any help or guidance.

It’s a relaxed bring-your-own-project day, so bring along whatever you’re working on — perfect for those projects that need some time spent on them and for spending time with other like minded people. See below for ideas.

New to sewing? Bring yourself and your machine and I can help you get started with some simple beginner exercises.

Already sewing but stuck on something? Bring your project and we can work through it together.

Want help with your overlocker? Bring it along and we can go through the basics.

New technique?
Have some time to experiment with your free motion embroidery or other technique.

You might like to bring:

An unfinished project you’d love to make progress on or finish

A garment you’re partway through or pattern guidance

A new pattern you’d like help starting

Your overlocker to practise with guidance

A new technique to try

Or simply come for a few hours of focused sewing time

If you’re unsure whether your project is suitable or don’t know what to do, feel free to get in touch through the contact form on the website.

It’s always a friendly, relaxed day and a lovely chance to make real progress on your sewing.

What an incredible day at the Draw With Your Sewing Machine workshop! 🧵✨

The creativity in the room was just amazing — a truly wonderful group of people exploring free motion embroidery and bringing their ideas to life.

It was fantastic seeing everyone share their results and the techniques they’d been learning throughout the day.

This session SOLD OUT, so I’ve added another workshop on Monday 18th May — and bookings are now open.

I’m already looking forward to doing it all again!

Venue: Smiths Cafe, Priory Maze and Gardens, Sheringham.

Does anyone have any personal recommendations for an occasion-wear alterations service locally? Bridesmaid and prom dresses. I do not have availability for these so would like to redirect enquiries.

Great session today at Sheringham Community Centre.

We practised buttonholes on our machines and then learnt tips and tricks on how to get perfect placements.

Brilliant results all round!
