🎉 Celebrating Over a Year in Our Derby Facility! 🎉

It’s been an incredible journey since we moved into our design, development, and manufacturing facility in Derby. We’ve faced both great moments and challenging times, and we couldn’t have done it without the phenomenal support from our suppliers, customers and the valuable collaborations with other UK-based businesses, and we hope that these partnerships thrive for years to come!

While designing and manufacturing clothing in the UK is incredibly rewarding, it comes with the challenge of demonstrating the value of UK manufacturing. We firmly believe UK production is the best sustainable and ethical choice for your brand. For those seeking lower production quantities, more sustainable and ethical options, higher quality garments, and better communication, UK manufacturing is the right decision.

Here at De Ronde we know that having secure and reliable supply chains is a necessity. In the wake of the pandemic supply chains buckled under the pressure of securing raw materials while keeping people safe. With recycled yarns going from a 4 week lead time to 8 months, many brands were forced to use whatever was available, even if it didn’t adhere to their values. Just to keep the lights on.
‌
While we have all learnt a great deal from that unprecedented time. It demonstrated where our supply chains were weakest and what we needed to do in order to ensure they are as strong as possible. What we learnt was that having a relationship with your supplier matters. It’s not at all dissimilar to having any other form of relationship.
‌
Having the level of trust between brand and supplier, be it factory or fabric supplier, is essential. How often are suppliers being kept abreast of styles that are working, and styles that are not? Does the brand know when your downtimes are? Do you have an open enough relationship to tell the brand you’re working with you have a cancelled order? Even if it’s for quality problems that could be rectified.

How do you go about sourcing fabric?

You’ll find loads of advice online about visiting trade shows, asking for recommendations, making sure you ask for MOQ etc.

Which is all great advice.

But before you do any of that you must have a materials strategy in place that covers;

🚴‍♀️ product lifecycle requirements
🌱 a biodiversity impact consideration
🏭 GHG reduction
🌊 water useage
🗑️ infrastructure for recycling and waste

And that can be the hard bit. We know that.

Quality takes time and experience.

It’s this that increases costs when in garment production.

‘A grade’ sewers get paid more because of their skill set. But they can only sew well if the cutter has taken their time in making sure the cut pieces are as close to perfect as possible.

The first image is some athletics briefs we made at De Ronde this week with rubber tape seams.

The second image is a £20 hoodie from ASOS.

Ironically quality doesn’t actually cost that much more, DM or email to find out our CM costs. Guarantee it’s not a much as you think! But the quality will impress you.
