Introducing !!
This year has taken me on a number of new ventures, spurred on by a yearning to give space and delve into other threads in my life, get some impression of new influences and attempt! to find a better balance of financial security.
This has seen me becoming a tour guide and learning to weave on clattering 16th century power looms
Teaching dressmaking for a local women’s initiative
And bringing into being a pshcogeographic art practice with with friend
GROUNDMOUTH started by huddling around dye baths, spinning flax and picking up trash, making weird bits as we swapped skills. It’s gradually gathered momentum to now which feels like it’s own sort of beast which we just have to just surrender and navigate into!
Here is us exploring rubble at abandon temple like Willington Power Station, as part of our first formed project STOMACH OF SILT and exhibition at nd in partnership with , Curated by .
Where we have been visiting forgotten places of industrial power and sinking into its haunting legacy of devastation, beauty and pride. Creating a sprawling and scavenged installation of sculpture, sound and textile.
Opening night this Friday! 6th December 6-9pm (live performance starts at 7pm)
Exhibition open Saturday 7th – Sunday 8th 12-4pm
GLOAM Sheffield
Come along if your this way
Thanks for reading and sending love x

Very excited to share this ! STOMACH OF SILT, an exhibition by Groundmouth, at GLOAM and in partnership with Haarlem Artspace.

Opening night Friday 6th December 6-9pm (live performance starts at 7pm)
Exhibition open Saturday 7th – Sunday 8th 12-4pm

Curated by

Stomach of Silt is the first duo exhibition of Groundmouth, a collaboration between Harry Martin and Milly Melbourne, born from The Field artist residency in the old headquarters of the National Coal Board in Derbyshire where they worked and played together for 18 months. Here they developed psychogeographic techniques to tune into the complex layers of historical, ecological, sociopolitical and mythic realities of the building and surrounding landscape.

For Stomach of Silt, they use this approach to explore forgotten places of industrial power - Masson Mills, a 1783 cotton spinning mill; the skeletal remains of Willington Power Station; and the River Don, where trash churns in swamps under Sheffield’s abandoned steel factories. They weave voices and knowledge from these spaces to intuitively understand the haunting legacy of industrialisation in all its devastation, beauty and pride, through a sprawling and scavenged installation of sculpture, sound and textile.

There will be a performance on the opening night at 7pm and a drop-in workshop to interact with and respond to the work with the artists on Sunday 8th December 12-4pm.

The exhibition will also feature an illustrated publication of writings as well as an exhibition text delving into themes of the work by Livvy Punnett

Happy New Year!
As I enter oB’s 7th year, I’ve been mulching it all together, re-envisioning, re-imagining and playing, and have emerged, riding a new wind of motivation.
Feeling inspired by my learnings and what’s instore. I’ll be designing & making more small wearables and objects, collaborating with other makers on special garment creations, going adventuring for photoshoots and shinning a stronger light on storytelling throughout this whole endeavor. .
I hope you’ll come along for the journey.
Is there anything you would like to see from oB this year? Or do you have any feedback?
I would love to add your thoughts to the compost
Wishing you all the most fruitful year.
Love, Milly
oB

The with the last remaining Fallen Leaves Shirt - No3 out of the ten hand painted gestural lines shirts.
Feels fitting that this last one has returned to the place which the project was made, painted with natural inks we made from simmered oak and sweet chestnut leaves that me and Babs ground collected from Bristol’s local park grounds at Ashton Court

Just saying a big thank you to all the oB garment wearing feedback the past couple of weeks it gives me a huge boost of inspiration and felt sense of support to be reminded of the value and usefulness of the things I make and how the garments nestle around your bodies and into your lifestyle’s . So thank you for following and supporting!
Also I’ll reintroduce myself for those that don’t know, I’m Milly I’ve been running oB slowly and organically for about 6 years now. It’s been mostly been me behind the scenes, making the garments I feel like exploring, I’m in love with the craft, attention to detail and play of garment making/wearing. Over the years I’ve found working in close relationship with people and hearing the many different ways people wear and see clothes really fascinating and enjoyable. And is the reason why you’ll see lots of adaptable garments and choices to the cutting process as it’s most definitely impossible to fit anyone in a one size fits all approach.
Here’s me under the abundant apple tree outside my new garden workshop. I’ll have more to share about this soon!

A couple of pairs of ready made Rust Brown Enclose Trousers have been added to oB uniques pieces web shop.

It’s also last day to get 10% off any order if placed before midnight tonight GMT 🎃

This unisex garment is a hard wearing daily wear piece with an adjustable trying waist mechanism that adapts to your size as it changes from day to day and year to year.
I also make this to order and tailor to the wearer, as the variations in size and preferences is extensive! Here’s my good friend Jake trying a pair on. I ended up making him this oB size S/M except with a few inches extra to the leg length so he can have the roll up roll down option.
