Duke Henry Plantagenet here, back from Tewkesbury Medieval Fair at the weekend. I'm selling on the stall, and some kids come upto me and one says:
"So do you have any quests for me? You look like the sort of old guy who gives out quests in games."
"DO I HAVE AN EXCLAMATION MARK OVER MY HEAD?"
"Err... no...."
"No worries, I'm bugged, and my script has stopped..."
They went away laughing, I loved that. 😁

The year is 1644. Oliver Cromwell is Lieutenant General of the Horse in the Parliament Army of the Eastern Association. It is in this intermediary stage between his humble origins and his ultimate fate as Lord Protector of the Commonwealth, Cromwell made his mark as an officer.

Cromwell’s cavalry troopers were well-disciplined and numerous (he had a ‘double regiment’ of 14 troops compared to the usual 6 troops). Indeed, by 1644 they had developed the nickname the ‘Ironsides’ which came from one of the many nicknames for Cromwell himself – ‘Old Ironsides’.

This discipline was instrumental in the Battle of Marston Moor. Whereas Prince Rupert’s Royalist cavalry squandered any gains by losing focus and chasing after loot from the baggage trains, Cromwell’s Ironsides reformed after their initial successes and swept into the disordered Royalist regiments.
Come and see the duel of horse at our Late May Bank Holiday event at Scampston Hall – tickets available now!

The Ironsides fame and skill soon led to them becoming the starting point for the cavalry of the New Model Army, Parliament’s reformed, professional army first formed in 1645.

With deep regret, we learnt today of the passing of Lindy Pickard, of The Cloth Hall.
Lindy with her bright rolls of tempting cloth and trays of shiny buttons and beads, was a ready smile in the sunshine or a friendly grimace in the rain, on so many of our historical markets down the years.
Another tent going up now on the Great Heavenly Traders Row, we will miss you, Lindy.

Quick reminder and sorry to clog your feed. See you all there hopefully!

It's not like a good meme goes bad, is it? We have seen the "Artificial Intelligence" generated Dark Age disasters, and whilst we stick to 15th & 17th century clothing, we can tell you that the AI would not get authentic Viking right, if you threw the damn thing over the side of a Longboat, along with its programmers, (which is tempting).

So once again, we are trading here at TORM, and I thought I would put a question to the Facebook Hive Mind. I've been chatting to Richard Phelps of Bespoke Re-enactment Bars about the upcoming season, Sealed Knot Events et al, and there is an impressive selection of samples of wines and meads to try. My question is this: if I buy a box of celebrity masks for the purpose of repeatedly walking past and getting free samples in the guise of each celebrity in turn, do I leave the Michael Jackson mask in the box, or just come up with a convincing back story?
