Sew What Marie

Sew What Marie I take exquisite antique/vintage textile and make unique attire, sometimes creating from scratch or changing an existing garment to a high standard.

I do not untake alteration.

It all came together beautifully on Saturday at designermakers21. To celebrate the upcoming International Women’s day we tied together a number of projects close to my❤️ Inspired by my Sedition Coat made entirely of pockets, which will be my submission for BeingWomen26 annual exhibition, Oxfam joined us on our “have a go day” to make a community banner. From my leftover jackets scraps everyone each decorated a square, illustrating what International Women’s Day meant to them. You will be able to view the final banner of squares in the window of Oxfam Diss and come to our opening at Mandall’s gallery in Norwich, all on International Women’s Day March the 8th.

Whilst textile treasure hunting, I found this gorgeous braid in the Big C craft and furniture emporium recently. I was beyond excited! Straight way I recognised that it had been handwoven on a small Inkle-loom. Inspired, I create each of these upcycled jackets. Happy hunting 😊

On April 2nd we finally received the documentary proof that designermakersCIO is now the legal owner of 21 St Nicholas street.

HURRAH!!

We had known for a few weeks, but there's nothing like physical evidence for dispelling nagging scepticism......Brunhilde is now in full song!!!

But the story continues and we now need to raise the match funding to release the remaining funds from the Community Ownership Fund; the Department for Levelling Up is offering us £46,000 (which we must match fund) towards essential building works at designermakers21.

Together with our match funding we will have £92,000 to spend and we have already started planning the works:

Central heating is a must (we currently use very costly electric radiators)
Paving the yard at the rear of the shop to make the space more usable
Repairs to various ceilings
Upgrading the electrical system
Renovating the front of the shop

We have until the end of July this year to raise the necessary funds, so far we have raised £20,000 so we need to raise a further £26,000 and with your continued support we can achieve this target.
