Groundbreaking 2025 study has revealed that aspirin can help prevent cancer metastasis by enhancing the body’s immune response. Researchers discovered that aspirin lifts platelet-induced suppression of CD8+ T cells, a type of immune cell responsible for targeting and destroying cancer cells. By restoring the activity of these T cells, aspirin allows the immune system to fight tumors more effectively and reduce the spread of cancer to other organs.
Platelets, which normally help with blood clotting, can inadvertently shield cancer cells and dampen immune activity, promoting metastasis. Aspirin inhibits this process, freeing CD8+ T cells to recognize and attack malignant cells. The study demonstrated that patients or animal models receiving aspirin showed significantly reduced tumor spread, highlighting its potential as a simple, low-cost strategy to complement existing cancer therapies.
