Today was my last day working at DJCAD as their Ceramics Technician 🥲

I got an absolute bumper load of flowers from the best bunch of Masters students and my manager, so I obviously popped them straight into a gigantic Sports Reject mug I spent my lunch breaks making in the workshop last month.

A little repair job I finished up this weekend, getting ready to fly home.

There are 4 of these sweet little ceramic birds in the flock, but they’d sadly lost quite a few wing tips over the years. The missing parts were remodelled and attached, then gold leaf was applied to highlight (rather than hide) the missing pieces.

I’m in my daft handle era. I’ve not had much time in my studio this year since I’ve been working full-time, but the time I do get to be there has been a nice chance to step back from business as usual and play with new forms. It’s nice.

This big blue wiggly handle amphora will be coming with me to .co.uk at Scone Palace next month, alongside some other bigger one-off pieces (and a few classics, but not loads tbh).

What’s more fun than being a technician in an art school? Being a technician in two art schools!

In a wild turn of events, I’m now working as Ceramic Technician at part-time alongside my job as a Casting Technician at 👩🏻‍🎨

I’ll be doing a final trip to the post office on Wednesday 18th December before taking a few weeks off.

I’ve been slowing down in the studio and doing more hand-building, playing around with using slabs to make forms that have the same graphic, flat feeling that my drawings do.

I’d usually be up to my eyeballs in markets at this time of year but after nearly a decade on the Christmas design market circuit I’m a bit burnt out by it. So I’m taking a wee break from in person events and big wholesale orders, and indulging in slow making without the pressure of selling for once.

(I mean, if you’d like to buy something though I’d still be delighted - online shop is open as usual!)
