As the curtains close on 2020

And as the curtains close on 2020, the crowd entered 2021 a changed crowd.
The first act they watched as hundreds fell, and thousands more stumbled.
They clapped for those who cared for our crumbled. Wildlife became wild life. Captain Tom walked us into a wonderful world of hope.
As a silent interval followed, half the country staying home, the other half venturing off to Bournemouth beach.
Act 2 there began a divide, black lives mattered. Some took to their knees in support, whilst others boo'd.
Some just rejoiced at being able to book a food delivery spot.
School work in pyjamas as they learn what furlough is.
Toilet rolls grew wings as masked bandits emptied shelves.
2nd interval taking its toll on the audience, now impatient and restless not to mention confused.
Wedding plans scrapped, no milestones marked. Every event off, that is except for funerals, now a 30 ticket heartbreak.
Footballers in bubbles perform in silent stadiums.
Black Friday is just a Friday.
Christmas just another day.
No cheers to this new year. Just hope.
A year like none they have known
Strangers able to zoom into living rooms.
Parties moved from real life to small screen. Maxing out WiFi limits as folk only half dress for lunch meetings at the kitchen table instead of the office.
Home schooling became the norm. 50% of parents rejoicing at now having more quality time with their cherubs, 50% in tears at the thought of having more time with their cherubs.
Board games made a come back, UK holidays preferred. compassion and understanding awoke in many as communities sparked, if just for a second.
Amongst the silence of the first interval. A heart could be heard beating, a gentle rhythm that was at first only heard by a few grew louder until it was heard across the land, felt across the land and seen across the land.
As the curtains closed on 2020 a Kingdom became...

United.
