The Indie Design Gift-A-Long (GAL) is HERE! Starting right now, a group of over 200 independent yarn-craft designers will be helping you to kick-start your festive-gift crafting!

What is the Indie Design Gift-A-Long?

The Indie Design GAL is a great big knit and crochet along aimed at supporting and promoting the work of independent designers, as well as giving you a head start on your festive-gift crafting.

Tell me more...

From now until the end of the year, the Indie Design GAL group on Ravelry will be a hive of activity.

I heard something about a sale?

The GAL starts with a sale. Every designer participating in the event is offering 25% off a selection of their designs using the code giftalong2025. Simply add the patterns you want to your Ravelry cart, use the code when checking out and get a bargain! To see which patterns a designer has included, head to their designer profile and look for the bundle labelled Gift-A-Long 2025. This bundle will feature all the patterns the designer has chosen to include in the sale. Do note that you will have to checkout separately for each designer you wish to buy from. The sale lasts until Wednesday 26th November 2025 at 11:59 pm (US-EST).

It’s GIFT-A-LONG time!

The second portion of the GAL is a massive knit and crochet along. Any paid-for design by a participating designer is eligible for inclusion in the craft along, just head to the Ravelry group and get crafting. If you finish an item before the end of the GAL (11:59 pm EST, Wednesday 31st December 2025), post it to the finished objects thread for the appropriate category and at the end of the GAL, you could win a prize. There are also plenty of opportunities to join in on Instagram, follow for full details.

As well as the sale and craftalong, there are lots of activities taking place in the Ravelry group, including quizzes and games.

What are you waiting for? Head to my profile to find all the links! Happy crafting!

Got some leftover yarn from the House Elf socks I shared at the weekend? Why not turn them into these Jolly Holly Socks? They are knitted in aran weight sock yarn - or you can use 4-ply sock yarn held double if you’re stash-busting - which means there’s a lot less knitting in them than a standard pair of socks. They’re also perfect for wearing around the house - cast on a pair for this Christmas, then look forward to having cosy festive feet for years to come!

Pattern is Jolly Holly Socks. Available in my Ravelry and PayHip stores.

I’m often over-ambitious in my Christmas gift knitting - trying to make something for everyone, and getting a bit overwhelmed. I’ve learnt from past mistakes though, and these days I only make things I want to make that people want to receive - even if that means directly asking the recipient about the project before I cast on.

These House Elf socks are knitted in aran weight sock yarn - or you can use 4-ply sock yarn held double if you’re stash-busting - which means there’s a lot less knitting in them than a standard pair of socks. They’re also perfect for wearing around the house. Beware though that if you have a cheeky elf in the house, they might want to use them as a picnic blanket for their mince pies!

Another day, another Christmas classic from the archive - can you tell I love Christmas?! This design is even better as the snowflake-theme works even after the big day!

Pattern is Snowflake Cushion (imaginative naming there…), and you can find it in my Ravelry and LoveCrafts stores.

Another throwback to my daughter being small enough to model for me! And another classic Christmas sweater, this time featuring a cute gingerbread man.

While the best time to cast on a Christmas jumper is probably January, so you can work at a leisurely pace, you haven’t left it too late to make one for this year, so long as you’re making it for a child! Future-proof yourself for next year by making it a bit big to allow some growing room, and go a traditional style that won’t go out of fashion.

Pattern is Can’t Catch Me!, available in my Ravelry and LoveCrafts stores.

A proper throwback here - my daughter was very small when she modelled this Christmas jumper for me 🥰 I can’t see her agreeing to do anything similar these days!

While the best time to cast on a Christmas jumper is probably January, so you can work at a leisurely pace, you haven’t left it too late to make one for this year, so long as you’re making it for a child! Future-proof yourself for next year by making it a bit big to allow some growing room - I deliberately made the sleeves on this one a bit long and turned them back - and go a traditional style that won’t go out of fashion.

Pattern is Waddle, available in my Ravelry and LoveCrafts stores.

Are you team autumn or team Christmas? I am firmly in the Christmas camp - I need all the fairy lights to keep me going through all the dark nights. I love a Christmas jumper, and own several (possibly too many, if such a thing is possible…).

Pattern is Rudi, available in my Ravelry and LoveCrafts stores.

My go to socks? The reality is, I usually knit socks while out and about, or while reading books, so my real go to is a sock with no pattern so I can knit round and round without thinking at all. But when I fancy something a bit fancier, my Siren Song pattern is my go to. A simple cable that’s intuitive to knit, and stands out against the background yarn because of the magic of slipped stitches. It adds a lot for very little extra effort, and I haven’t found a yarn it doesn’t work in yet!

Pattern available on Ravelry, LoveCrafts and PayHip - links in profile.

I feel like the weather has turned this week and proper autumn has arrived. While hats and gloves are just for when the weather is a bit chilly, I find I use my blankets all year round! This one - Hedgehogs and Hoglets - is a great seasonal blanket, but its use can be extended throughout the year, even if it’s only when your child wants to build a den!

Pattern available on Ravelry and LoveCrafts. Check the links in my profile.

One of the things I love about knit design is that it’s a sequence of problem solving tasks - what type of rib, how long should the leg be, what type of heel, how can I scale a stitch pattern so it looks as good in a tiny size as a big one? This pattern (Just Checking In) ended up with two ways to create the vertical stripes - one using intarsia and one using surface crochet, because one option made for more complex knitting, while the other more complex finishing, and there’s definitely a split among knitters on which they’d prefer to do!

Pattern is Just Checking In - check it out in my Ravelry and PayHip stores.

Are you team spooky, or team autumnal? Pre-kids I was definitely team autumnal, but with small kids in the house, this time of year is all about the spooky!

Want to get some Halloween crafting done in time for the end of the month? You should probably get started!
My Halloween in the Windows banners can be knitted over a long weekend or over a few evenings, and will be good for years to come.

Pattern in my Ravelry and PayHip stores. Link in profile.
