That’s a wrap on the snowiest, sunniest, most amazing alpine Christmas ever!! ❄️🏂👏👏👏

We stayed at the fabulous , a catered chalet that sleeps 12 in La Rosiere.

My first time to La Rosiere and I loved it.

It’s high (loads of snow but long transfer from Geneva), really cute alpine feel, good shops and restaurants, easy buses to different lifts but you can walk through a trail night and day everywhere, not pretentious but not at all basic. And not too busy for Christmas week!! No crazy lift queues! There’s also Ice skating, a cinema, bowling and an extreme Luge -
Plus good for walking and snowshoeing for non skiers.

The views from are incredible and the food and hospitality from Jonny and Freja the hosts was just 👌👌👌.

Padel is my new love. 💕

It’s so much fun and it’s quite a big deal for me. Here’s why:

When I was younger I played tennis a lot and I was pretty good. I grew up in a sporty house and everyone had their ‘thing’ and that was one of mine. 🎾

But similar to so many females, I swapped sport for boys and socialising once I got to about 16 and then when I came out the otherside, I chose to exercise (run / gym) rather than play sport.

And by that time it had been so long I felt like a true imposter and I was scared to go and join a hockey or netball team, or a tennis club. It’s my painful perfectionism too, I couldn’t bear to not be really good the moment I started to play again. I have (had) a massive fear of failure and it stopped me putting myself forward.

I’ve had this niggling feeling for years that sport is in my blood and I’m not making the most of it. Missing out on fun and satisfaction and progression and new friendships.

The side note to this story is that I married a professional tennis coach. Pre-kids we would play tennis together but my hormones and temperament just couldn’t handle a very hard and frustrating game. And he told me this is totally standard in women and tennis. After Uni age, women drop off from playing the game because it makes them too stressed and grumpy! (Seriously) and also life gets in the way of prioritising sport with jobs, kids running homes etc. And then come the 50’s where (for boomers at least) life starts to calm down; as do levels of expectations on your performance; the uptake in tennis starts to really ramp up again.

I have seen what an amazing social life tennis has given my husband and I felt so envious of this.

So a few months ago I started playing Padel. My tennis skill comes in very handy but it’s pretty new to everyone playing and it’s just easier to play well and play consistently. Much more room for error which works well with my mood swings! And I just don’t take myself or the games too seriously.

What a breakthrough!

As I played yesterday with three other wonderful women, in the sun, I felt a massive sense of happiness that I was back where I have wanted to be for so long. Part of something. 💜

LETS TALK HAIR 👩‍🦰

You know this has been a journey for me. I bleached my hair at home during lockdown .. twice .. maybe three times. And the post covid, post home dye job, post partum hair loss, into perimenopause, crazy cortisol levels and probably many other things caused my hair to fall out and break off. I felt like I had nothing left.

But we are on the come back! .by.lou has held my hand through it all. 💜💕

Hair is so emotive for women, it’s such a big part of our identity, and you don’t realise how much until it’s compromised.

February marks my birthday month. My 40th birthday month. So of course it had to be pink 💖

This day in 2020 > Beautifully naive and ready to take on the world one colourful jumper at a time. No products to show but a story to tell.

This day in 2021 > Wow, this is going well! How is this my job? I love it!!

This day 2022 > Yeh, this is actually pretty hard, but passion is fuelling me and accessories are so much easier to manage than clothing!! No returns! Woop!

This day 2023 > I’m burnt out, I don’t know how to get over some huge business hurdles. It’s lonely in business. I have thought of nothing else for nearly three years! Where do we go from here? (Bloody nice beanies though!)

This day 2024 > Healing from burnout, at peace with my decisions .. but with massively itchy feet! About to turn 40 and wondering what do the next ten years look like? ✨
