Earlier this year I was very lucky to be included in a Telegraph piece by Lauren Bravo about how some of Britain’s most stylish women shop second-hand and to give our shopping tips for those who want to try broadening their second hand shopping skills beyond the likes of Vinted. As we hit Second Hand September, it felt like a good excuse to revisit it.

And speaking of giving good clothes another life… I’ve accumulated quite a pile of vintage and pre-loved pieces from my own wardrobe over the last few years, helped along by babies, changing bodies and several wardrobe shifts, and it’s time some of them found new homes.

So this Sunday evening I’m trying our first ever Second Stories live pre-loved sale.
I’ll jump on Instagram Live, try everything on and talk you through the fit, fabric and condition properly. We’re using SoldLive, so each piece will have a number. If you want it, you simply comment the number during the live and you’ll be sent the checkout link.
Essentially, a slightly old-school shopping channel meets wardrobe clear-out. Potential for mild chaos.

Would you join me? And what time works best, 7pm, 8pm

SECOND STORIES IN SCOTLAND, 01: NORTH BERWICK

I’ve wanted to start this little series for a while. So many of you who follow Second Stories don’t actually live in Scotland, and I’m often asked where we love to go, where we’d recommend staying, eating or visiting, and the places that are genuinely worth adding to a trip up here.

So, welcome to Second Stories in Scotland. An occasional little guide to the places we genuinely love, from favourite places to eat and wander to weekends away and easy escapes.

It felt right to start pretty close to home.

At the end of August we had a little family staycation in North Berwick, one of our favourite seaside towns and somewhere we never really tire of, despite it only being around half an hour from us.

We were lucky enough to stay at The Marine North Berwick, with those completely ridiculous views across the golf course and out to sea. It was such a good reminder that, particularly with small children, you really don’t need to go very far to feel like you’ve properly got away.

AD/ PR discount, we were kindly given a discount on the stay and a complimentary dinner so I’ve marked this as an Ad

The Marine has its own little putting green, which was always going to be a hit with my husband, and my eldest who’s started getting into golf lately!

We timed our stay rather perfectly with Fringe by the Sea, North Berwick’s brilliant summer festival. One of those lovely weekends where there was something going on everywhere and plenty to keep the smallest members of the family entertained too.

One of the things I’ve realised about travelling with small children is that it doesn’t necessarily need to be far flung trip to feel like a proper break. Sometimes a different room, a beautiful view and nowhere you particularly need to be is enough

And then there are the views. I’ve seen this stretch of coastline so many times and I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever tire of it. Scotland showing off a little.

The food was genuinely excellent. Not “good for a hotel” good, just properly good. We’re already planning to come back for dinner, even without the excuse of staying the night. Also very much appreciated: somewhere lovely enough

Copenhagen days call for the Sylvie dress. Perfect for transitional weather, layered under my leather jacket, with the Camille bag and pillbox hat finishing things off.
