‘Marriage of Figaro’ is currently on tour!

I had such a lovely time working on this stunning opera with an amazing designer!

The Costume Department and Wigs & Make-up team at Scottish Opera are inspiring, generous and joyful to work with - every one of them is an expert in their specialism - highly trained and using years of skill, knowledge and instinct to craft every top to toe look that appears on stage.

The degree shows are currently on in art colleges and universities across Scotland, and I wanted to take a moment to champion the talented students and graduates I work with in and

I teach part-time as a Teaching Fellow for and am their dedicated Accessories tutor!
With 31 a days a year in the Fashion department, and 11 days a year in the Performance Costume department, and working with 6 year groups - each day there is busy, varied, exciting, enjoyable and challenging.

I teach design and support the students to bring to fruition the fabulous bags, luggage, headwear, hats, body pieces, animal heads, masks and ‘wigs’ that complete each cohesive head-to-toe vision that we see in their shows. This work is the culmination of 4 years of hard work for them.

The first step on their journey is a research idea, concept or sketch, and then this develops and morphs into the most wonderful and diverse creations, hand crafted by the students themselves.

It is a privilege to nurture their talent and enthusiasm, and watch them grow in confidence and develop the new skills which will carry them through life and their future careers.

A huge well done to all of the graduates 👏 - I’m very proud of you all and look forward to seeing how your journey continues…

What a fabulous couple of days - starting with the Private View of some of the stunning costumes and props from the forthcoming and hotly anticipated Outlander auction at Bonhams.
Huge thanks to .matthews_bonhams for the invitation, and to for your fabulous company.
Then and I attended the fascinating panel discussion chaired by Rebecca Anthony. Thank-you to James Wylie from and Lyndsay McGill .l.christie_works_of_art for generously sharing your knowledge.

A few years ago I was asked to make hats and work ‘in house’ on Outlander - but being freelance running a busy millinery studio meant that sadly it wasn’t possible for me to do so.
However I have had the privilege of teaching all of the graduates who have worked on Outlander over the years. For many it was their first opportunity to work in the industry, and a valuable experience that forms the foundation on which they build their careers.

There will be a large exhibition of lots at Bonhams in London before the auction starts.
The auction will be held in London on the 5th August and online from 20th July - 6th August - see their feed and website for more details and grab yourself a little piece of history!

Refreshed after a fabulous research trip to Rome!
It felt so exciting to be back there after a break of 7 years.

Revisiting some of my favourite places in the world like the House of Livia on the Palatine Hill, and seeing the utterly beautiful painted triclinium from her house at Prima Porta (which has been on my bucket list for a long time!).
Incredible to see 2000 year old paintings expertly executed and still looking so vivid and crisp - they are so beautiful and portray depth of field and perspective not explored again until The Renaissance.

Visited Ostia for the first time - with stunning nautical theme mosaics, and spent many very happy hours visiting historical sites and museum collections across the city.
Thank-you to for a lovely stay.

This time last week I had the absolute joy of attending the Opening Night of ‘Catwalk : The Art of the Fashion Show’ at - the rain poured down but nothing could dampen the delight of all of us there.

It’s an incredible exhibition covering 125 years, so beautifully curated and displayed. Meticulously crafted pieces by iconic names and glimpses behind the scenes, sit alongside rare and delicate items seldom exhibited.

We sipped fizz, ate delicious food, enjoyed the exhibition, caught up with lovely friends, and danced until dawn, well - the 10.30pm train back to Edinburgh. …

I’ll be back to give this exhibition the time it deserves, it’s on until Jan 2027. Go see!
