I promise we’ll get back to the shire soon, but the adventure play area at was too good not to mention!

Easily one of our top 5 play areas, plenty for all ages to explore. Wills enjoyed all areas, even tackling the big slides (that I may have passed up!) playing in the sandpit and exploring all the nooks and crannies.

£10-£16 entry depending on age and season, under 2s free, free parking (validate your ticket at the adventure play area) session times are 2 hours but it was quiet when we went (Friday, term time) so we were invited to stay for as long as we liked. Take a picnic and explore the great park.

Makes a perfect pit stop (lovely garden centre and cafe too) or even a second day activity if you’re staying over after visiting another local attraction (highly recommend a day at just around the corner)

We had one of those magical days in London yesterday enjoying what has felt like the first sunshine in too long.

First up, with no queues, winner, as wills wanted to see some dinosaur bones, the way they can get hands on with so many exhibits kept wills really engaged, and there was some nature crafts to take part in too. It was warm inside already, so be prepared to strip some layers.

After, we mooched up to Hyde Park for a picnic and ice creams in the sunshine before cooling off in the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain. I’d never been before but the sounds of children and adults enjoying the water together on a beautiful sunny day seemed like the most touching tribute to this inspirational princess and mother.

Another out of the Shire day, but with transport links so good and reasonably priced, just under £50 for the three of us booking the day before, parks, memorial fountain and museum entry free (donations welcome) heading down to London for the day can be a great option for a day out.

Despite the standard British weather we had an awesome day at William’s first visit to - highlights included Justin’s house, driving, octonaughts rollercoaster and the sea life aquarium. We actually didn’t get time to do any adult rides but if you want to mix it up you can get a parents pass from guest services when you get there - basically one parent can queue as usual (and use solo rider queue for some rides) then they get a stamp and you can use the fast pass track with your stamped card so you don’t both have to do the full queue. Fab idea. Staff everywhere and absolutely every one of them was full of beans and helpful. The skyline is undergoing a revamp so expect to walk… a lot. Despite being a Sunday we only ran into one queue that was over 20 mins, and that was before using the app to work out where to head - I think CBeebies land was probably busiest first and last thing, so probably should have done some bits further away from the entrance first, and hit the bigger rides there at around lunchtime, but it wasn’t really an issue. They’re (understandably) very strict with heights, so if your little one is on the cusp of 110 I’d wait until they are as so many more rides are open to them then (under 90cm are free) but personally I’d stick to the likes of Sundown until 110 so they can make the most of it. We booked 1 day in advance and the ticket prices weren’t as bad as I was expecting - around £35ish each plus £10 for parking. Great day out, lovely to experience my favourite theme park through Will’s eyes.

One for the older toddle arounders today, Scalextric Racing Spalding

A wet and windy morning meant we were looking for something indoors and so we decided to have a go at some family racing!

Each track can accommodate 4 racers so we could all play together. You get 8 minutes on each of the 8 tracks which was perfect, long enough for him (and us!) to get the hang of each one, but not too long for those little attention spans!

I was concerned before going that we’d spend the whole time just putting Wills’ car back on the track but the super helpful team were prepared - a little block of sponge stopped the trigger being depressed too far and a super sticky car meant wills was soon flying around the track, even winning a couple of races!

£12 per racer is great value for around 1.5 hours entertainment - we’ll definitely be back again soon and would highly recommend for those 4 and up that can reliably follow instructions. Super handy location, a few minutes from Springfields / Baytree just outside of Spalding - plenty to do in the area if you’re looking to make a full day out.

🏰 Historic Houses 🏰

We ventured north this weekend and visited Elsham Hall just outside of Brigg. We timed it right and caught a small Christmas market, they seem to have plenty of events going on throughout the year so worth keeping an eye on their socials or checking out their website for details.

Whilst not a full day out, we spend a lovely few hours exploring the walled gardens, spotting mushrooms and feeding the handful of farmyard animals.

There is a good sized playground, perfect for confident walkers and climbers with swings, hammocks, slides, sandpit and trim trail, with enough tree cover to keep the worst of the drizzle off. Exploring the enchanted garden was fun too with lots of stepping logs to race around.

We had lunch in the cafe, if we go again I’m definitely partaking in a cream tea, the scones looked amazing! Plenty of space for picnics too.

If you’re making a special trip, it’d be an ideal pairing with Brigg Garden Centre or even a stop off on the way to The Deep to make a full day out, and with free entry with Historic Houses membership it’s definitely somewhere we’d call in at again when passing. £7/£8 normal entry fee.
