Antique circa 1890s victorian top hat.
Made by the prominent maker Lincoln Bennett & co of piccadilly London.
A prestigious hatter that had royal appointment to the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Lincoln Bennett were highly thought of London hat makers, with a long history.
The 1846 trade directory records them at 2 Sackville Street, Piccadilly and they kept this address, expanding to add No. 1 and 3, into the 20th century. They also had premises at 58 Union Street, Borough, 24 Nelson Square, 19 & 20 Charlotte Street, Blackfriars Road and 40 Piccadilly W. They were hatters to T.R.H. the Prince and Princess of Wales and won various gold medals at exhibitions in Philadelphia, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne, Calcutta, Adelaide, London and Chicago between 1876 and 1893. It was said that they covered 'more aristocratic crowned heads in their time than any other firm in the world".
Available now in used condition with only superficial patina this silk top hat is ideal decoration and looks superb in any setting.... Comes with a 1930s box not associated with the hat but made in 1930s itself.
