Easter is one of the busiest times in our workshop. A moment of reflection, renewal, and tradition, where the garments we craft take their place in meaningful services across the UK and beyond.

Wishing you a peaceful and joyful Easter

Why Bespoke Matters

“I now have a new cassock alb and a new surplice courtesy of Aura. The cassock alb was bespoke rather than off the peg and nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend them for the outstanding service I received. They are a classy outfit (pun intended).”

Bespoke garments are shaped around the individual - not simply adjusted to fit.

For clergy wear in particular, comfort, movement, and proportion matter. A garment worn regularly must support ministry quietly and reliably.

Thoughtful measuring, careful pattern drafting, and fabric selection make that difference.

Lent is often expressed through restraint.

Simpler motifs, deeper tones, and reduced ornamentation create a visual language of reflection. The power of these textiles lies not in embellishment, but in proportion and quiet detail.

Sometimes the most impactful design choice is what is intentionally left understated.

Mothering Sunday carries themes of nurture and continuity.

In many churches, this is reflected through gentle colour shifts or subtle floral detailing — visual expressions of care within the liturgical year.

Craftsmanship, at its heart, is also an act of care: attention given so that something may serve faithfully for years to come.

Preparing for Graduation Season

While graduation ceremonies may feel some months away, March is often when institutions begin reviewing regalia requirements.

Academic dress must balance precision with presentation - colour consistency, shape, lining placement, and structural integrity all matter in procession and photography.

Early planning allows time for accuracy. In ceremonial work, correctness is part of respect.

National Repair Week

This week highlights the value of repair - something long embedded within ecclesiastical tradition.

Many church textiles and garments are designed to last decades. With careful restoration -reinforcing seams, replacing linings, transferring embroidery, refreshing worn areas - pieces can continue serving for years beyond their expected lifespan.

Repair is not simply practical; it is respectful. It honours the craftsmanship already invested in a garment and preserves continuity within a worship space.

Longevity has always been central to our approach.

February’s Quiet Work

As the month closes, this is often when the “behind the scenes” work matters most, careful making, thoughtful preparation, and garments refined in detail long before they are needed.
It’s a steady rhythm we value: work designed to support communities and institutions with calm, dignity, and long-term reliability.

Briefing a Commission: What Helps Most

If you’re commissioning a new textile or garment, a few details prepared in advance can make all the difference: intended use, colour matching requirements, motifs, timeframes, and images of existing pieces or the setting.

Clarity at the beginning supports accuracy and ensures the final piece feels appropriate, consistent, and dignified.

Why Academic Hoods Matter

Academic hoods carry meaning through colour and form. They represent qualification, discipline, and institutional heritage and they must be constructed accurately to present correctly during ceremonies.

From lining to cut, small details shape how a hood sits and how it reads in procession. Thoughtful making ensures academic regalia remains consistent, dignified, and true to tradition.

Creative UK National Summit - King Place, London

Today we’re exhibiting at the Creative UK National Summit, representing the craft behind our ecclesiastical and ceremonial regalia.

It’s been a valuable opportunity to speak with others across the creative industries, sharing how heritage textile practice continues to sit confidently within the contemporary creative economy.

From discussions around specialist craftsmanship to conversations about longevity and material choice, it’s encouraging to see the continued appreciation for skilled, considered making.

We’re pleased to be here and grateful for the conversations throughout the day.
