Missed last week of but back this week with Day 20 🌿✨

Prompt today is : Glow Up

Turning scraps of yarn into felted decorative cushions. Both the embellished multi-coloured surface and filling is created from the cutting ends when trimming and perfecting my tufted pieces. Making use of all my textile waste with any remaining primary tufting material mixed in too.

Many tote bags filled with tufting waste. Waiting and ready to be used in up and coming projects… 🧡

Day seven of 🌿

Prompt today is LEARN :

Figuring out how to trace my collage seemed super simple at first… but it wasn’t! Seeing as I was unable to stretch the primary backing onto the frame and project my work to then trace ( due to many reasons incl. wrong projector for the job and a tight work space!! So the projector had to be miles away) I had to find another way….. With help from friends on my course we managed to tape up the very heavy tufting material, create both a large scale print out and high quality projection to begin outlining. In the moment of coming up with a solution and holding up the rather heavy material I completely forgot to flip my image… :(( as when you are tufting you work from the back and the design grows out from the front. Seeing as it is a key part of my process to transfer first hand drawings; I hope to learn from these mistakes, understand more about the use of tools as well as better equipment to make it just slightly easier 😅✨

Day Six of 🌿

Today’s prompt is START THE DAY :

Most of my days begin with a nice cuppa ready for an early start at work !

My work however starts of as colourful collages. All made up of paper washed with procion dye, intercut details and somewhat purposefully place motifs. This collage here became the unedited version of my ‘A Portal to The Promised Land’ design.

Day Three of 🌿

Prompt is SNIPPET :

Wasn’t sure what to post so here is a pic of a fun sample I did August last year for . Demonstrating different techniques and ways of approaching tufting. Gradients of colour and combinations, textured patterns and shapes, unique yarns including silks as well as cut and loop pile heights and a small element of knit. A little random but full of ideas and texture. ✨

This year I have decided to take part in to not only give a better glimpse of but to use the challenge to assist me back into posting; sharing more of my process and passion for all things textiles ✨

Only a few days late but better late than never! Using the weekend to play catch-up with hope to be back on track for Monday 🤞🏻so here’s Day One + Two….

Day One BRAND ORIGIN :

FayeBentleyTextiles started in my final year of Textiles Arts University Plymouth] where my love for tufting began when I was given the opportunity to use the tufting facilities after being introduced to the technique in my earlier years of study. I had previously experimented with punch needle to add areas of texture to smaller samples so having a frame over 2 metres wide and an industrial tufting gun was hugely exciting!! Now 6 months after graduating I am slowing developing my own studio space, building a small frame, collecting more cones of yarn and purchasing my very own tufting gun 🔫🥳 Still a way to go but really looking forward to the next few years to see what they may bring!

Day Two ALL ABOUT ME :

🌿I am 22 and live in wonderful Somerset.

🌿I graduated Arts University Plymouth] last year with a First Class Honours degree in Textile Practices.

🌿I am a Studio Assistant and a Craftsperson at Mulberry. As well as beginning to kick start my brand FayeBentleyTextiles.

🌿My inspiration mostly comes from nature and what is around me.

🌿I am a Colour Enthusiast and love dyeing especially natural dyes.

🌿Tactility is my favourite quality in a textile piece which is why I was drawn so much to Tufting.

🌿Committed to creating by hand and having a zero waste policy, so I am always looking for initiative ways to make use of all my project scraps.

Keep an eye out for Day Three SNIPPET later today.
