Family holiday away in a yurt. No TV, just a few toys and a lot of exploring. See if you can spot my little boy sneaking out of bed after his story. It happens to us all 😂😂

I went for an early morning walk this morning so I set my alarm for 6am and it got me thinking that at one point this was the time Albie used to wake me up EVERY MORNING. This can be a symptom of overtiredness in little ones. Just some simple tweaks to their schedule can make all the difference...

Have you noticed that your baby or toddler’s sleep is significantly worse during the full moon? Or perhaps you’ve noticed that your own sleep is disrupted? Maybe you’ve found it harder to get to sleep at night, or you’ve woken more than usual? If so, you’re not alone!

Actually quite a flattering shot of me so I thought why not share. Thanks Albie for the filming skills 😂😂 Happy Friday

If you need cheering up tonight just watch this. My crazy baby and his funky moves. He never stops and sometimes it's exhausting but I wouldn't have him any other way. If you think you might have a super alert child like Albie then give me a shout. They tend to struggle a lot with sleep but there are techniques you can implement to get things back on track.

So tonight Im taking some well deserved "me time" to watch the sunset. Albie is tucked up in bed and its time to do something for me. Its so easy as a parent to never ask yourself "what do I want" but isn't that one of the most important questions? Ultimately if you are running on empty what you can give out is limited.

If you are struggling to get your little one to sleep at night, maybe its time to take action and get yourself some well deserved me time too!

Its reviews like this that make my job so worthwhile... Its been such a pleasure helping out this little cutie...

"We’ve recently spoken with Marie to try and help our 21 month old little boy, as over the last 6-8 weeks his previously normal (ish) sleep has been all over the place.

Marie was brilliant. Listened to the routine we currently have and gave us some tweaks and advice and suggestions on how to get him back to how he was.

By following the advice of Marie, his sleep is actually better than it was before. No more sleeping on his floor to get him to sleep and no more screaming in the night if we aren’t still on his floor when he woke up. It has been a saviour for us and our little one as well.

He’s no longer tired in the day and isn’t over tired when he goes to bed. The routine and additions to his bed time routine have been amazing.

Thank you Marie for all of your help and support. Nothing was ever too much trouble and you were always there if we needed you. You are an absolute star."

It's testimonials like this that make me love my job so much. Thank you so much Tasha xx

"A friend of mine recommended that I contact Marie to help with my little boys sleep..I will now be recommending Marie myself to anyone who needs help!
When I first spoke to Marie I was so sleep deprived as my little boy was up every hour in the night and was contact napping for only 30 minutes at a time in the day.

Marie took the time to get to know us as a family, our parenting style and Isaacs temperament. I was so relieved to hear that she wouldn't suggest 'crying it out' as it's something we wouldn't have done.

After working with Marie and using her gentle sleep methods Isaac has now made the transition into his own room, naps in his cot and self settles to sleep meaning he sleeps so much better through the night. But most importantly Isaac is happy and content and we as a family have a set of tools to use and put into place to ensure he continues to get the sleep he needs and so do we!

Thank you Marie!!"

Does your child ever wake up just an hour or two after falling asleep, screaming at the top of their lungs and completely inconsolable?

I recently had this happen to one of my clients and so I thought it would be a good area to touch on as it’s something quite a few of you may find useful to know.

It’s a horrible situation to be in as a parent because nothing you seem to do makes any difference and the cry your child makes is so piercing that you are adamant they must be in some kind of pain. And its also most likely that they will try to push you away, as if you are some kind of danger to them.

If this sounds familiar and rings true with you, then what they are probably experiencing is a confusional arousal.
This is sleep disturbance that usually happens in the first half of the night so its when your child will be in their deepest sleep.

It usually happens when they were overtired when they fell asleep, so instead of drifting off gently and smoothly they zonk out.

When they wake with a start, they do not fully come back to consciousness and they are trapped in a middle place between being in deep sleep and awake.

When you try to comfort them and they push you away, its actually because you become part of their dream like state and they feel threatened by you.

So if this happens again, rather than picking them up and cuddling them you are better off staying a distance away and just monitoring them, so that you can see they are not doing themselves any harm. Its really hard to do this as a parent as it goes against your instinct but the confusional arousal will be much shorter if you do and your child will soon settle back to sleep by themselves.

The best thing about a confusional arousal is that your child won’t remember it in the morning and so even though it sounds awful to you at the time, they will be completely unaffected by the ordeal.

And… if you want to avoid this happening again download one of my sleep charts for free and see if your child is getting enough sleep for their age.
