There is something so precious about personalising a wedding dress with tokens or momentoes. My lovely bride Hannah brought with her, her mother's own wedding veil to place somewhere on her dress. I carefully cut our the beaded embroidered flowers from the veil & appliqued them on the train of Hannah's dress. The additional embellishments worked so perfectly, overlaid on the lace flowers on the dress, yet they were so subtle as if part of the original design. The sentiment was so personal & so special.

Hemming a dress with swaths of 'horsehair braid'. Ever wondered what 'horsehair' is? Today it is a woven nylon mesh braid made to add structure & form to clothing especially soft fabrics in bridal & evening wear to add shape to hems. Originally Horsehair fabric was woven with the tail & mane hair from live horses and cotton or silk warps. It's still made today but in small quantities. The last remaining manufacturer, John Boyd Fabrics, still use the original looms and techniques from 1870.

Simple yet effective and beautiful. I created for my bride these custom made 'Angel Sleeves' in ivory tulle which were scattered with a few beads to catch the light & match the beads on this gorgeous lace column dress from .bridal.lounge. The sleeves are easily detatchable using a few snap fasteners to remove after the ceremony/reception.

This vintage marabout shrug has been brought into me by one of my brides to adjust the shaping. How beautiful & elegant is this Prom dress? Yes it's that time of year when seamstresses up and down the land work their magic for all the pretty young things getting ready to celebrate the end of school life at the annual prom in June and July. It wasn't a thing in my day, but what young lady wouldn't want to dress up in a beautiful gown for a night. Some of the dresses I'm working on are simply stunning. Watch this space!

When perfecting the fit of a bodice when doing alterations to a dress, unpicking the lace motifs off the seam areas is a delicate and time consuming process. The motifs are stitched to tulle so care has to be taken not to damage the fabric. Once the seams have been taken in, the lace motifs will be laid back over the seams, sometimes repositioned and then sewn back to the tulle. All in a days work for a bridal seamstress!
