Today is a very unique British celebration. But depending on which side you are on, Guy Fawkes can be a villain or a hero. This night remembers the failure of the gunpowder plot led by Catholics against protestants..
Religion has always divided humans. During the year 1605, on the night of the 5ft of November, a group of Catholics fans tried to assassinate protestant King James I and his ministers by blowing up the Palace of Westminster to restore a catholic monarch to the throne. Guy Fawkes is the most recognised leader but it was Robert Catesby who mastermind the conspiracy; in total, they were a gang of 13 rebels. Guy Fawkes was caught red-handed with 36 barrels of gunpowder and tortured for days. He was the only man that the King's men had captured. The gunpowder did little damage to Westminster, because, apparently, it was not in good condition, otherwise it would have exploded and damaged neighbouring buildings. He did from a broken neck not hanged, drawn or quartered in public.
