ICYMI - Catch up on this replay of our Insta Live: Supporting Pride with and me!
We talk about what Pride means to each one of us and discuss what businesses can do to support the LGBTQ+ community.
Some key take aways:
β€οΈ Show your support all year round, not just during Pride Month, after all, LGBTQ+ folks are here all year round too! Don't just go with the token gesture!
𧑠We see the small stuff - it doesn't have to be all rainbows and glitter 24/7! Show your allyship in small, meaningful ways
E.g. use the rainbow flag in your bio/posts - shows that you welcome the community
E.g. display your pronouns in your bio - shows your awareness and respect of other people's gender
π Use inclusive language - go gender neutral in your posts and behind the scenes with online/paper forms
E.g in the wedding world, instead of saying 'bride and groom', you could opt for 'couple', 'fiances', 'nearlyweds'
E.g. instead of 'ladies and gentlemen', try 'family and friends'
E.g. use 'they' pronouns until the person discloses their preferred pronouns - listen out for it
Once you do it a few times it's really easy π€
π Use inclusive marketing - we post pictures on social media to market our business all the time - think about how your grid looks - would someone be able to tell you are an inclusive business just by looking at it?
Use images that include an array of different people - LGBT, BAME (Black & Asian Minority Ethnics) and disabled people. Simply reflect who is out here in the world! Some TV advertising is doing great at this now π€
Always ask permission and give credit where it's due.
π Immerse yourself - your phone really is a window to the rest of the world isn't it? Your wee patch of the world might not be super diverse, but social media is a great tool to expose yourself to other cultures and flavours out there - search for and follow hashtags like and social media will show you more - and you'll learn more without even realising it
π Don't be scared, keep learning! Everyone makes mistakes but it's all about your intention and your openness to keep learning. If you're unsure about LGBTQ+ vocabulary, go to www.stonewall.org.uk for a list of terms βπΌ
Follow and to learn more about how you can support the community

All on
ππ³οΈββ§οΈ Go forward with an open heart and let's all try and be compassionate and kind towards one other - we are all human, but as long as there's inequality, we'll always need Pride, and we'll always need your support π
