I will never stop educating myself on well fitting crochet garments.
I love exploring different techniques and different ideas on how to design garments that fit well.
Of course every body is different and it would be impossible to write out a pattern to fit everyone! Size-inclusivity is a tricky thing and no matter how hard we try as designers, we simply can’t cater for every single crocheter!
But if I can learn techniques and tricks that I can incorporate into my designs and teach you guys how to adjust the patterns yourself the easy way, that’s the only way forward for me!
I’m excited for the next chapter!

Most people think following a crochet sweater pattern exactly fixes the problem of poor fit—it’s actually what can cause it.

That sounds strange, especially if you've been taught that the secret to successful crochet is simply:

Follow the pattern.

But here's the problem.

A garment pattern isn't written specifically for YOUR body, YOUR yarn, YOUR tension, or YOUR preferred fit.

It's written using a set of assumptions.

The designer assumes you've chosen the right size.

They assume you've checked your gauge.

They assume you understand the finished garment measurements.

They assume you know how much ease you want.

They assume your yarn will behave similarly to the yarn used in the sample.

And if one of those assumptions doesn't match reality?

You can follow every instruction perfectly...

and still end up with a sweater that doesn't fit.

That's why I see crocheters spending hours trying to figure out where they "went wrong."

They count their stitches again.

They check the pattern.

They wonder if they've made a mistake.

Then eventually...

They frog the whole thing.

But the problem often wasn't a mistake halfway through the sweater.

It was a decision that should have been made before the first stitch.

This is why I believe garment crochet requires a different approach from making blankets and toys.

With a blanket, the finished size might not matter all that much.

A few extra centimetres doesn't usually stop anyone from using it.

With a garment, those centimetres can be the difference between:

"I love wearing this."

and

"I'm never making another sweater again."

The solution isn't to stop following patterns.

It's to stop treating the pattern as the entire process.

Before you begin, you need to understand:

-What size are you actually making?

-What fit do you want?

-Does your gauge create the right fabric?

-Will your yarn behave the way you need it to?

-What adjustments might you need to make?

Once you start thinking this way, a pattern becomes what it should be:

A set of instructions that helps you create the garment you want.

Not a guarantee that the garment will fit simply because you followed every line.

That's the shift I teach inside my Crochet Garment Academy.

It's designed to help crocheters move from simply following garment patterns to actually understanding the garment-making decisions behind them.

Because the goal isn't to become better at frogging.

It's to make the decisions that mean you don't have to frog in the first place.
