A little update ...

I'm a bit quiet at the moment as I've been working on a fabric art red squirrel. He's going to be a medium to large size, so it's all taking a little bit of time and thought.

Here's a few images of my work in progress so far.

His shell has been created from calico fabric which I've machine sewed together to create the shape. It's a vintage pattern I've had in my collection for a long time, not the easiest to work from such are vintage patterns, but I got there in the end.

My starting point was to work around his eyes in the top fabric. This and all future stages of work will all be hand sewing so it'll take some time to get to the finish line. From here I'll build up his body and hopefully add in a bit of his character.

Just look at the size of that tail though!

This will be a red squirrel 🐿️ with attitude!

More updates soon.

Just to also add I've no immediate artisan fairs coming up at the moment, but please direct message with any queries you may have regarding any of my work or future commissions.

Little Acorn squirrel appeared yesterday in my workroom.

Created from tapestry I've made all the stitching on the outside for this little creature in order to show off the gorgeous array of coloured threads woven into the fabric.

His tiny arms have a wired armature inside so they are movable. Well he had to have something to hold his acorns with didn't he!

See video on previous post.

I've been taking a little break, but I've still been creating in the background.

Here we have two textile art little wedding birds made in a vintage style.

This post and the previous video post gives a glimpse into my latest work.

Please note these unfortunately can not be used as cake toppers due to the materials used in creating them. However they are bird fabric sculpture home decor and hopefully will make you smile.

Brides dress was created using fabric remnants from my own wedding dress after alterations.

My first makers fair of the year today at Lower Holker Hall.

Thanks to anyone who visited my table, purchased, looked, commented on my work or took a card.

Thanks also to the fair organisers as always.

The weather was a bit mixed, but it didn't stop people visiting which was lovely.

Feet up now and I'm offline for the night as I have a date with a glass of wine and an Easter egg! 😊

Have a great weekend everyone.

1st April and this little textile bird has been finished just in the nick of time to see the new month come in.

The fabric art birds I am creating at the moment are all one off creations. They are made as home decor fabric sculpture to sit in any room or work place, but would look so lovely on a shelf or bookcase, in a bright room peeking out to say hello.

All my fabric art pieces that I have created so far are for sale. I say 'so far' as each and every one of them take time to bring together. I am happy to take on commission work too.

The birds are not meant to replicate any particular species they are purely my interpretation of a pretty bird with beautiful colours.

Please direct message me privately if you wish to find out more.

Also ...

Thank you so much for supporting my small business page on Facebook and Instagram.

Post likes, comments and shares, word of mouth are a huge help to small businesses getting seen out there.
It's not so easy these days as social media algorithms don't always work in the favour of small artisan makers getting seen or heard.
I truly appreciate all your continued support thank you.

Feel free to share this post (one quick press of the share button could mean more than you know) and thanks in advance if you do. 🙏

Songbird.

Along with him becoming my new cover image for this year here's the little cheeky chap in all his glory.

I've used lots of layering of different fabrics and textures including furnishing cotton's, chenille and velvet.

Frayed edges are used to give the feathering effect on the wings and tail.

The legs are wired and partially covered.

I've also added in a few extra design elements to the original pattern just because I could. ☺️

Hand created by me, Debra, at Johnny Biscuit Design.

He's a one off and can be viewed at upcoming fairs

A little fun AI video I've put together on Instagram for today's March Meet the Maker challenge.

Today's prompt is ...
Who is your work for?

My answer...

It's for anyone who loves handcrafted and original textile art or soft sculpture pieces.

Whether it's purchased, gifted to another person or kept for yourself, whatever the reason anyone who takes an interest in my work I thank you as it's the biggest compliment I could ever receive.

I'm still finding my style as I go along as working solely on my textile work is relatively new to me, but I do love creating these characters that I can input a little bit of a quirky personality.

It's quite stylised and it's fun and my main aim is that it will make people smile.

I see them in either a home or commercial setting as a piece of decor, an ornament, a conversation starter or even maybe part of a collection. These are not toys, but they are definitely created to be enjoyed.

I'll be adding in more textile work as the year progresses both with little characters and other items I decide to create.

In the meantime I hope you enjoy this short video. I had a lot of fun making it.

Just a quick one today on my recent soft sculpture creations and also a little update.

I'll let the images speak for themselves (see below) and these will all be available at up and coming makers events that I'll pop on nearer the date.

Please note these are all soft sculpture decor and are not being sold as a toy. ☺️

Also if you are active on Instagram and are interested at all, I am once again taking part in the 2026 March Meet the Maker Instagram challenge which runs throughout this month and gives an insight into not just my work, but it's nice to see what other creative makers out and about are doing and where their stories began.

As I'm doing textile art and soft sculpture work now, this year will be a little bit different from previous years due to the nature of my work.

Last but definitely not least I have to add that today would have been the real Johnny Biscuit dog (our Max, his daytime name) birthday today. He would have been 15. So happy birthday up there my beautiful lad you will always be remembered not just because of my small business, but because you were so very special.

Please note this is not a toy and should be kept away from children and pets due to wire armature and other mediums used during creation.
