Royal Ascot is officially underway, and as always we’re keeping a close eye on the racing fashion as well as the horses.

One of the standout trends so far has been the rise of sunshine yellow. From soft butter tones to bold, vibrant shades, yellow is proving to be the colour of the week. The Princess of Wales certainly turned heads in a striking yellow ensemble, showing just how elegant and impactful this cheerful summer shade can be.

If you’re feeling inspired, we have several beautiful yellow options in store, including both Lemon and Yellow shades from the Max & Ellie collection.

Another trend catching our eye is the return of the classic boater. Structured, timeless and effortlessly stylish, boaters have been appearing throughout the enclosures this year. Zara Tindall’s elegant bow-trimmed boater was one of the most talked-about millinery looks of the opening day and a wonderful example of how this traditional shape continues to feel fresh and contemporary.

For those who love this classic race-day look, styles such as the CH6 and SH6 from Max & Ellie offer a similar elegant silhouette that’s perfect for weddings, race meetings and special occasions.

Some clients become part of the Hats on Top family, and Helen is certainly one of them.

A familiar face to us for many years, Helen is a passionate racegoer whose calendar seems to feature race meetings from all corners of the country — and beyond. She has long appreciated the individuality and craftsmanship of bespoke millinery, making her one of Head Milliner Elena Lewis’s most loyal custom clients.

This striking fascinator, designed and handcrafted by Elena, recently enjoyed its long-awaited outing at The Derby Festival, where it attracted plenty of attention.

In fact, Helen was stopped by Raceday TV on her way into the course and asked about her stunning headwear.

Helen later wrote:

“I got stopped on the way in by Raceday TV asking about my stunning fascinator. So I told her all about the wonderful Elena Lewis and her marvellous creations!”

We couldn’t have asked for a lovelier compliment.

It is always a pleasure to see Helen’s latest racing adventures and to watch Elena’s bespoke creations out in the world, being worn exactly as they were intended — with confidence, elegance and a touch of drama.

An MBE, a memorable day, and a hat we were honoured to be part of.

We were delighted to receive this lovely photograph and message from Maureen Berry MBE, who wore one of our hats to her investiture at Windsor Castle, where she received her MBE for services to inclusion.

Maureen kindly wrote:

“Receiving an MBE for services to inclusion was a wonderful experience, enhanced by having a hat I was comfortable wearing to complete my outfit.”

As milliners, we know that a hat isn’t just an accessory for special occasions. It should feel comfortable, suit the wearer, and give them confidence on an important day. Knowing that Maureen felt exactly that means a great deal to us.

Congratulations once again to Maureen on this well-deserved honour, and thank you for sharing this special photograph with us. We are proud that Hats on Top could play a small part in such a significant occasion.

“Thank you for making me feel so special on such a perfect day.”

We love receiving messages like this.

A huge thank you to Caroline for sending us these beautiful photos and for her incredibly kind words after her daughter’s wedding. Caroline looked absolutely stunning in her royal “sapphire” blue outfit, perfectly finished with a hat styled and colour matched in-store by the Hats on Top millinery team.

One thing we always try our best to do when helping families and friends attending the same event is make sure everyone feels individual and special. We keep detailed records of previous customisations and styles chosen so we can help avoid accidental repeats where possible — something that proved especially useful with this wedding party.

It was such a pleasure assisting multiple members of Caroline’s family for the big day, and we’re so grateful for all the recommendations and support she’s sent our way. Supporting independent businesses through word of mouth really does mean the world to us.

Elaine and her daughter Emma recently visited us after dressing for a fabulous 1930s Belmond Pullman murder mystery train experience to celebrate Elaine’s 70th birthday — and we think they looked incredible.

A huge thank you to the lovely Jacqui for sending us these beautiful photos from her son’s wedding.

Doesn’t she look amazing? The warm orange tones of the headpiece worked perfectly with her dress and the whole look came together beautifully.

One of the loveliest parts of our job is getting to see our customers all dressed up for their special events after they’ve visited us in the shop — weddings, races, garden parties and everything in between.
