The Kora at Shy Bairns Get Nowt

A traditional West African instrument, the Kora is often described as a bridge between storytelling and music. Originating from regions including The Gambia, it has been played for generations by griots (oral historians and musicians), carrying stories, culture, and heritage through its distinctive sound.

At Jerry J: Shy Bairns Get Nowt, the Kora will form part of the live performance, bringing a piece of Gambian culture to Newcastle and creating a unique soundtrack for the runway. The combination of contemporary fashion and traditional music reflects Jerry J’s vision of connecting African heritage with modern British creativity.
