This message got me thinking about something I hear all the time.

It’s not really about one person, it’s about how we value clothes, skills, and the work that goes on behind the scenes.

What do you think? 👇

I’ve always been drawn to traditional folk costume.

Across different cultures and places, these garments tell stories. They connect us to the people who came before us — to makers, families, communities, and traditions that have been passed down through generations. They were often made slowly, with great skill and care, and treasured for years. Every stitch carried time, love, and meaning.

In a world that moves so quickly, I think it’s important to keep these values alive. I love clothing that feels cherished rather than disposable, garments that hold memories and connect us to something larger than ourselves.

This love of folk dress was the inspiration behind my cropped jacket pattern, The Amalia Jacket. Inspired by traditional folk jackets, it features a simple, versatile cut that can be made either as a jacket or as a waistcoat, making it easy to adapt to your own style and wardrobe.

I launched this pattern a little while ago, but it still feels just as special to me because it comes from a place that matters deeply. It’s my small tribute to the beauty of handmade clothing, the traditions that inspire us, and the joy of creating pieces that are made to be loved for years to come.

If you’ve made one, I’d love to see it. ❤️

I’ll start.

Years ago, someone bought me a beautiful jacket from an antique shop. It was made from real silk and sheepskin, and over time it became quite damaged.

There were moments when it would have been easier to let it go, but it was simply too beautiful and too special to throw away.

So I mended it.

Not because it was the easiest option, but because some pieces deserve another chance. Every repair felt like a way of honouring the craftsmanship, the materials, and the memories attached to it.
I’d love to hear your stories. What have you saved through mending, and why was it worth it?

Your wardrobe and the way you shop can start a movement. Be part of the movement towards slow fashion.

From damaged to mended!

A hole in your favourite jeans doesn’t have to mean the end. Watch the transformation as this tear disappears with an invisible repair, restoring the denim while keeping its original look intact.

Do you prefer invisible repairs or visible?

After my last reel, lots of you pointed out that while cutting patterns directly on the fabric can save time, it’s not always the best option if you want to preserve the original pattern.

And you were right. 💛

Many tissue patterns are out of print, vintage, or simply difficult to replace, so tracing them first means you can keep the original intact for future makes.

So here’s my method for transferring a tissue pattern to tracing paper — and yes, I’ve ironed the pattern this time too! 😅

I’d love to know: do you cut straight into your patterns, or do you always trace them first?

Giving old fabric a new life is a great way to get creative while reducing waste. When making a costume for a puppet, second-hand fabric can be the perfect material. Old clothes, charity shop finds, curtains, bedding, and fabric offcuts can all be transformed into unique costumes full of character and charm.

The best part is that even the smallest scraps can be useful. Tiny pieces can become pockets, collars, hats, patches, bows, accessories, or decorative details. Mixing different textures, colours, and patterns can help create a truly one-of-a-kind puppet outfit without buying anything new.

Using second-hand fabric not only saves money but also helps keep textiles out of landfill. It’s a simple reminder that with a little imagination, scraps can become something special. Whether you’re making costumes for puppets, toys, crafts, or other creative projects, every piece of fabric has the potential for a second life.

You don’t need to hesitate about learning to sew!

(Excuse the tired face I’m on day 6 of loooong days sewing 😂)

A small stitch can make a bigger difference than you think.

Before you toss it, try fixing it. You might be surprised by everything that comes from giving your clothes a second chance.
