I know many of you are already aware of my plans but I hope this doesn't come as too much of a shock if you didn't already know.
The thing is I have decided to hang up my weaving shuttle for good and close Godrevy Textiles by the end of the year.
I'm sure a lot of you understand the difficulties surrounding caring for elderly parents. My life is busy in that respect and I'm waiting knee replacements myself as my arthritis worsens. This is all giving me the perfect opportunity to explore new creative directions as the future unfolds. As a weaver and artist I'm excited to be broadening the spectrum of my practice and work. Whilst weaving large pieces of cloth on a floor loom is no longer practical for me I am relishing the chance to explore my passion for weaving with different natural materials.
It's an evolution I'm embracing. I'm already spending many happy hours wandering the lanes and byeways around our cottage with my secateurs in hand. I'm collecting different reed materials to use dried in hats and other accessories. In particular I'm looking for soft fibres for flexibility like Iris, daylily and various grasses and sedges. My creative shed is beginning to look like an apothecaries emporium! I do feel the terms countrywoman and craftswoman are interchangeable at this point.
I do hope you will wish me well in my new direction. There is still time to own a piece of Godrevy Handwoven heirloom cloth from my website over the next six weeks or so if you would like.
It's been fabulous meeting so many of you over the last six years and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
