Godrevy Textiles

Godrevy Textiles I'm Sarah, the Artisan Weaver behind Godrevy Textiles. I work on a mechanical floor loom, using organic cotton yarn and finest linen.

In my home on the Lizard Peninsula I create distinctive fabrics inspired by the Cornish coast and French farmhouse style.

I know many of you are already aware of my plans but I hope this doesn't come as too much of a shock if you didn't already know.

The thing is I have decided to hang up my weaving shuttle for good and close Godrevy Textiles by the end of the year.

I'm sure a lot of you understand the difficulties surrounding caring for elderly parents. My life is busy in that respect and I'm waiting knee replacements myself as my arthritis worsens. This is all giving me the perfect opportunity to explore new creative directions as the future unfolds. As a weaver and artist I'm excited to be broadening the spectrum of my practice and work. Whilst weaving large pieces of cloth on a floor loom is no longer practical for me I am relishing the chance to explore my passion for weaving with different natural materials.

It's an evolution I'm embracing. I'm already spending many happy hours wandering the lanes and byeways around our cottage with my secateurs in hand. I'm collecting different reed materials to use dried in hats and other accessories. In particular I'm looking for soft fibres for flexibility like Iris, daylily and various grasses and sedges. My creative shed is beginning to look like an apothecaries emporium! I do feel the terms countrywoman and craftswoman are interchangeable at this point.

I do hope you will wish me well in my new direction. There is still time to own a piece of Godrevy Handwoven heirloom cloth from my website over the next six weeks or so if you would like.
It's been fabulous meeting so many of you over the last six years and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.

Christmas is nearly here! Don’t Panic! I Have You Covered…

I’ve a new journal post on my website to help put you in the festive mood. A five minute read to give you a few ideas and gently ease you into winter mode. Link in my bio above or in comments below.

“Hello everyone, and just like that, we’re rushing into November! I’m completely buzzing, as if it’s already Christmas Eve, with all the last-minute prep for my biggest event of the year: the Makers Cornwall Christmas Fair taking place on 7–9 November at the Penryn Campus in Falmouth.”

Foraged fibres

One of my projects for the winter ahead is going to be weaving with different natural materials. As a craftswoman and countrywoman this delights me in many ways. It’s a fabulous excuse for slow ambling walks enjoying the myriad of plants and colours in the Cornish hedges that surround my cottage home. Secateurs in my pocket always collecting as I go!

Once the splendid rush of creating textiles for our festive homes, selling them at Christmas markets and packing your lovely website orders are done, I shall be settling down to lots of reading and research. It is my intention to take Godrevy Textiles on new adventures next year and I’m looking forward to sharing my creating with you.

Designer Maker

This is what I’m all about. My passion is looking at the patterns in our everyday lives and distilling them into their component parts and reassembling them into something unexpected. Or if not entirely unexpected into a new perspective. My textile weaving is about colour and impact. It’s about the exceptional becoming part of our interior landscapes. It’s about creating something that is easy yet exciting to live with.

I love a big canvas like a huge cushion to convey my work. It gives me a place for a broad graphic brush stroke.

My cushion covers are available on my website right now. As always they are one of a kind. There is no repeat. Each is a thread by thread creation. These two coastal inspired pieces will be with me Christmas Fair 7/8/9 November if I can fit them on my table. Sometimes you’ve just got to have the thing haven‘t you?!
