ARZU KARA Stylish/Contemporary woman's wear Arzu Kara has an extensive background in women’s fashion and created her own label in 2006.

Originally from the captivating city of Istanbul, Arzu’s talent in garment construction began at the tender age of 14. Attending a vocational high school, Arzu dedicated her acafashion and design, which would later lead her to hone her craft at the prestigious Central St Martins in London. An Honour’s degree in Fashion Textiles from Thames Valley University soon followed.

rious designers, including the prestigious Bora Asku, it became clear that Arzu’s career was flourishing. A widened creative vision, a focus on the wearability of her designs and the eventual birth of her own brand ensued such creative collaborations. It is Arzu’s commitment to her craft, which even led to a nomination as the most successful business woman of the year in 2012. Now based in the beautiful town of Henley on Thames, Arzu continues to demonstrate her dedicated craft and talent for understated elegance. Empowering women with the clothes they wear is of paramount importance. By carefully listening to what her clients want, the designs embody the type of woman who channels an effortlessly chic style with a mixture of couture fashion that consistently meets her needs.

I worked with the most incredible Photographer and stylist from South Africa — I wish I could remember her name, because I still remember her talent.
On the soot day the weather had other plans for us, and welly boots became a necessity. On the spot, she transformed mine with scraps of antique lace I had left over from a bespoke commission, turning practicality into something completely unforgettable.

My new collaboration with the University of Milan on Archives of Abjection: Minoritarian Cultural Production in Turkey and Its Diasporas started with this headscarf.
The project resonates deeply with me and its ongoing interest in women’s art, archives, and the forms of memory carried through material culture.
It also feels personal. Some of my earliest memories from home in Istanbul are of the daily newspaper subscription arriving each morning for many years and encyclopedias lined up on the shelves. My father held knowledge and academia in deep regard, and I think my own pull toward archives, research, and close looking begins somewhere there.
Milano Üniversitesi ile Türkiye ve diasporalarındaki minör kültürel üretimlere odaklanan Archives of Abjection başlıklı yeni iş birliğim, bu başörtüsüyle başladı.

Kadınların sanatı, arşivler ve kültürün taşıdığı hafıza biçimleri etrafında şekillenen bu proje, bende derin bir karşılık buluyor.

Aynı zamanda benim için çok kişisel bir anlamı var. İstanbul’daki evimize dair en eski anılarımdan bazıları, her sabah evimize bırakılan gazete ve raflarda sıralanan ansiklopediler. Babam bilgiye ve akademiye büyük bir saygı duyardı. Sanırım benim arşivlere, araştırmaya olan aşkım oradan geliyor.
