A History of Hay Castle in 100 Objects - 1/100

Over the next few months, we're going to take you on a bit of a journey through some of the unusual, spectacular, mundane, and bewildering objects which tell the story of Hay Castle. Follow us to collect the full set!

1/100 - The trebuchet ball. This was discovered during archaeological excavations in 2019. The roughly hewn ball is 29 cm wide and weighs 28.5 kilos and was found at a depth of 40cm in the mansion’s east wing. It is thought the ball was launched from a large wooden catapult known as a trebuchet. No-one knows who, if anyone, it hit!
