Had a CRAZY good Sunday metal detecting a few weeks back... 😮
I noticed that unfortunately (for local wildlife) the farmer had cut down and turned several areas set aside for nature. But fortunately (for this detectorist) that meant unsearched land was suddenly available.
..I of course took full advantage (putting aside my green nature-loving values) and got searching.
..First decent find was RIGHT on the border of a field at the top of a hill - I recognised the ring dot pattern straight away, and once I turned it over I realised I'd found my first Saxon 'hooked tag'!

Nothing much else in that patch so moved to another field... At the top of THAT patch was a recognisable 1724 George 1st, followed by a worn Roman, Royal Artillery button...
THEN late afternoon a perfect condition, almost luminously turquoise, bronze age awl! Can't get any better than this I thought.
I was wrong.
Medieval vesica seal matrix 🤯 ...1200’s AD - used for sealing a letter or document with wax. After a LOT of research I think I have identified the owner. Will confirm and post an update soon...

Weirdly, the first time I wore this T-shirt, I did actually find a hammered! A VERY nice condition Edward 1st silver penny (👉swipe to see close ups 🤓)

I can't guarantee it will work, but you'ill still look good digging up shotgun cartridges and buttons
