It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Ruth. After a recent cancer diagnosis she passed away peacfully at the Highland Hospice. Ruth was an incredibly creative, talented, and kind woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Ruth Catherine (nee Morrison), aged 71, R.I.P. died peacefully on the Feast of St Stephen 2025 in the Highland Hospice. Beloved wife of the Reverend Len Black, loving mother to George, Simon and Mary, grandmother to Rachel, Lauren and Sammy and dear friend to many. Funeral Mass on Monday 12th January at 12 noon in St Mary's R.C. Church, Huntly Street, Inverness; thereafter to Kilvean Cemetery. Wear bright colours. Family flowers only, but donations to the Highland Hospice at the Mass or through John Fraser & Son.

Yesterday I had my lovely granddaughter helping at The Workshop getting everything ready for the start of the tourist season. There have been a few visitors over the winter months, but mostly I have just been head down, working away and making things. Now everything in the shop has been tidied up and refreshed, the shelves dusted and generally freshened up. Outside I have been taking advantage of this lovely spring weather and have filled the hanging baskets and planters with violas and primulas to give a nice splash of colour.

Friday is the last day that I will be open this year - open from about 11am till 4pm - depends how quickly I get my covid vaccine, but will be out as soon as I can. I will re-open on 6th January.
If you feel cold over the holidays, why not think about ordering one of my exclusive Harris Tweed coats...... The colours in this one are reminiscent of a roaring fire, but you can commission yours in any colour combination that you want.

I realise I have not posted on this page for a very long time - sorry, life and work have been busy!😜

I have a change of regime now at the Workshop. I am now open by appointment, or whenever you see the doors open, rather than sticking to set hours. If you want to be sure of finding The Workshop open, please email or call ahead and I will do my best to fit in with your plans.
I am here most weekdays, often as early as 9am, sometimes as late as 6pm, but I must admit that in the winter months I try to leave about 4 to avoid night-time driving. But I am very flexible, so please do get in touch if you want to visit at a particular time.
And if you are making a start on your Christmas shopping, remember that this is the ideal place to come to get something that is designed and made in Scotland, embroidered with Celtic designs inspired by Scotland's past, using fabric that is hand woven in Scotland with wool from Scottish Sheep! Most of the things I sell are made with Harris Tweed, others with my own tweed woven in my loomshed, all unique.
Hats and Scaves, Bags and Purses, Wraps and Capes, Wallhangings and Cushions plus little things such as keyrings, Christmas decorations etc.

The Workshop is now closed for the Christmas holidays.
Thanks to all who have visited us in this last year.

Until Easter we will be open by appointment only, although if the door is open and the lights are on, you are welcome to come in. I hope to do a lot of working from home to save on heating and driving, so please do call ahead of your visit or you might find us closed.

Every so often I need to take time out to play! Next week The Workshop will only be open on Wednesday and Thursday. I am attending a tapestry weaving class for two days and have friends visiting another day. Apologies for any inconvenience.
On Wednesday and Thursday I should be at the studio as normal - but will still be "playing" with tapestry weaving.
