The term ‘infant’ comes from the Latin ‘infans’/'infantem', which as a noun means "babe in arms," and as an adjective "unable to speak." … which makes sense, when you think about it.

The term 'Infant' is typically used when referring to young baby from birth to 1yr old however, any child up to the age of 4 is considered an "Infant".
