Rambling Clo

Rambling Clo Independent clothing & art brand
Built on slow fashion, storytelling & community
Printed to order. Reduced waste. Designed to last. Yorkshire, UK

Rambling Clo is an independent clothing brand driven by sustainability and mental health awareness. Inspired by the balance between urban life and nature, our designs carry stories of resilience and growth. Born from a deeply personal journey, Rambling Clo emerged as a creative outlet during a time of recovery. Overcoming the challenges of childhood trauma, addiction, and homelessness, I found sol

ace in art during the COVID-19 pandemic. What began as simple doodles in a notepad gifted by a peer supporter became "Sertraline Smile," my first character—a symbol of the emotional masks we wear to face the world.

Internal Smile, Paris.
A photo sent over by one of our customers.

From sketches in a notebook to streets, hills, cities and rooftops across Europe.

Thank you for taking Rambling with you.

We are all Internal.

One of the suppliers behind Rambling.

We're always trying to make better decisions about where our garments come from.

No Sweat is one of the suppliers we've chosen to work with because of their commitment to worker ownership, fair pay and ethical production.

They're not our only supplier, but they represent the kind of values we want to support as Rambling continues to grow.

There is no perfect garment industry. No perfect supply chain.
What we can do is ask questions, be transparent about our choices, and keep moving in the right direction.

Every decision matters.
Every supplier matters.

And every purchase is a chance to support a different way of doing things.

A few years ago I was sketching characters in notebooks while trying to hold myself together.

Today I had the privilege of sitting with Jeremy Cunningham and looking through the original woodcuts and linocuts he created for The Levellers over the years.

Not every archive lives in a museum.

These were the blocks behind the prints. The marks behind the artwork. The stories behind the stories.

Carved by hand. Inked by hand. Printed by hand.

Real work made by real people.

Sometimes it's worth taking a moment to reflect on how far you've travelled.

From sketchbooks and ideas scribbled in the margins, to sitting in a studio with Jeremy Cunningham and looking through decades of printmaking history.

Still making. Still learning. Still rambling.

What do you do when your internal world is louder than the external one?

Stick on Martha Tilston.
She certainly helps filter some of that noise.

There are moments in life that make more sense when viewed from a distance.

Looking back through old photographs, I found a tarp stretched between two trees, a sketchbook resting beside a brew, and a version of myself searching for a little peace amongst the noise.

The woods never fixed anything.

They simply offered space.

Space to think.
Space to create.
Space to sit with thoughts that felt too loud everywhere else.

At the time, I wasn't building a clothing brand. I wasn't planning products, collections or websites. I was trying to understand myself and find moments of quiet in a world that often felt overwhelming.

Years later, I can see how those moments helped shape Rambling. Not the garments. Not the artwork.

The values behind them.

Slow down.
Pay attention.
Make space for yourself.

New Field Notes now live on the website.

Before Rambling, there was my portrait studio.

A small space in Keighley, not far from where the new creative building now stands. While many photographers leaned toward clean white backdrops and commercial perfection, I went the opposite direction.

Black backdrop.
One key light.
A spotlight behind the subject.

I wanted depth.
Shadow.
Emotion.
Something cinematic. Something that felt more like fine art than photography.

Looking back now, I can see the foundations of Rambling Clo already forming long before the garments existed. The same atmosphere, the same storytelling, the same search for honesty and feeling over polished perfection.

Rambling didn’t begin with clothing.
It began with trying to create emotion through imagery, environment and mood.

Some things change medium, but never change meaning.

Really appreciate this post from Tena after her recent trip across the UK.

Rambling started out from my own battles mentally. Art, clothing and creating became a way to process things that at times felt difficult to carry. What began as a personal outlet slowly became something much bigger than I ever expected.

We first met through the Circular Fashion Incubator last year and stayed connected through shared conversations around slow fashion, creativity and community.

Seeing Rambling described as “more than just products” genuinely means a lot, because that has always been the intention behind the brand. Not just to make garments, but to create something honest that people can connect with.

A t-shirt and a painting travelled from Yorkshire back to Brussels, but the bigger thing carried across was connection, conversation and shared outlooks.

Grateful for the support and for the people this journey continues to bring into my life.

WE ARE ALL INTERNAL.

Rambling is putting together a large scale public photography piece built around movement, identity and collective presence.

No models.
No influencers.
No perfection.

Just real people becoming part of something bigger.

Black canvas trousers.
Internal Smile issued by Rambling.

Location announced privately.

If this speaks to you, DM to take part.

A year ago Rambling crossed paths with (Tena) .threads at a circular fashion show

Since then life kept moving.
Messages turned into friendship.
Friendship turned into real world moments.

This week, after travelling across the UK from Belgium, Tena and Marco arrived in York where me and my wife met them to hand over an original Rambling canvas piece and an Internal Smile tee.

Sometimes you realise independent brands are not really about products.
They are about people, stories and the strange paths that bring them together.

York.
Old streets.
Warm pubs.
Wrapped artwork heading back across borders.
The Internal Smile wandering through another city.

That means more than numbers ever will.
