When you invest in a kilt or sporran, do you know what and who you are investing in?
Fashion Revolution Week is a fantastic opportunity for us all to consider how and where our clothes are made, and take responsible and informed action for positive change.
We would love to share what really matters to us, what shapes our beliefs and values, and how, collectively, we can make a difference.
Timeless & Sustainable Fashion
Our kilts are hand-sewn by Kate Robertson using traditional techniques and exacting standards - ensuring exceptional quality kilts, expertly designed and crafted to last a lifetime. Kate is an independent kiltmaker, only making kilts under the name of Roberson Kiltmakers.
Working directly with Kate means you get a personal and memorable experience.
You have the opportunity to be involved in the design process of your kilt!
Dedicating time, precision, passion and care into every stitch, Kate skilfully hand-sews each kilt, transforming a length of cloth 8-10 yards long, into something very special and unique.
Importantly, you are supporting ethical and fair pay for a kiltmaker, ensuring a living wage (shockingly, this is rare), and directly helping to preserve an endangered heritage craft.
Kate includes opportunities for future alterations, meaning your kilt can evolve with you over time. Kilt alterations require specialist skills, and Kate is proud to offer her expertise. Whether resizing or reimagining a beloved family kilt into a new item; no kilt is left in a wardrobe unworn.
Exceptional Quality
Choosing hand-sewn over machine-stitched is a conscious decision to value quality over quantity, skilled craftsmanship over convenience, and people over profit.
We carefully select exceptional quality, long-lasting materials for our kilts.
The wool tartans and tweeds we use are woven by Scottish and British mills and independent weavers, supporting other heritage crafts.
Our kilts are made using 100% wool…which is 100% natural.
Robertson Kiltmakers kilts and sporrans are a statement of sustainability, ethical work, heritage and craftsmanship - keeping Scotland’s cultural legacy alive, one stitch at a time.
