Absolutely devastating news.
Most that know Pete, will know that he enjoyed modifying his trail shoes and other shoes at home and we’d speak every now and then about which shoes and what soles he was playing around with. We’d end up talking about adhesives, primers and rubber compounds. It probably sounds pretty dull to most people, but when you meet someone who shares a genuine fascination with the science and technology behind it all, those conversations are incredibly rewarding. The family of a man who died following a two-vehicle collision on the A66, near Thornthwaite, on Saturday (6 June) have paid tribute to his life.
Pete Faulkner, 45, of Cockermouth was driving a car at the time of the collision.
His family said:
“Pete was a loving and devoted partner and Dad to Hannah and Finn, a much-loved son of Roger and Janet and brother to Katherine and Tim.
“A fell runner extraordinaire who came alive on the mountains, moving across ridges, high ground and scree slopes coping with any challenge with grit and determination – especially when there was cake or ice cream at the end
“He was a supportive friend and colleague to so many people. His practical mind was legendary, whether recreating running shoes from scratch or shortening a Land Rover so it could climb seemingly impossible steep banks offroad.
“He approached every challenge with creativity, tenacity and a great sense of humour. He was the kind of person who made the world feel bigger, wider and kinder simply by being in it.
“He will be missed by many and remembered with fondness, gratitude and love by all who knew him.”
Police are continuing to investigate the collision and are appealing for any witnesses – or anyone who saw anything relevant – to contact them on 101, referring to incident 23 of June 6.
