Back in 2015, I made what most people would probably call a questionable financial decision. I took out a "car loan" and bought a 15-needle industrial embroidery machine with a huge embroidery field.
The funny thing is, I was completely overwhelmed by it. I didn't even use the large hoop until 2020!
I always say I don't really sew – what I can do is work a computer and software. Over the years I've used those skills to design and refine manufacturing processes that allow one or two people to produce more than 150 pads a day.
But here's the difference: we're not chasing fast fashion.
A single TCS-eco pad takes around 10 minutes to manufacture. That production speed would never work in a factory focused on volume and margin. If our goal was maximum profit, we'd cut corners, simplify construction, and outsource production.
Instead, we've spent over a decade perfecting products that are made to last years, not months.
Every stitch, every material choice and every design feature has a reason behind it. From our enclosed stitching to our FloZone absorbency system, we've focused on durability, comfort and performance rather than the cheapest way to make a product.
We are slow fashion.
We manufacture in Scotland, pay fair wages, use premium materials and build products that are designed to replace hundreds of disposables over their lifetime.
Sometimes I look at that embroidery machine and laugh. At the time it felt like a massive risk. Looking back, it was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Not because it made production faster, but because it gave us the ability to create products exactly the way we wanted them to be made.
