Probably one of the most interesting things we’ve ever sold…

At first glance, a cabinet full of rather strange-looking tools. But the story behind them was incredible.

These were adaptive tools made for tradesmen who had lost an arm after being injured during the war, designed so they could still hold, grip and control their tools and return to their trades.

Spade grips, pliers, tool holders and a prosthetic hand - ingenious bits of engineering that meant losing a limb didn’t necessarily mean losing your livelihood too.

We could have sold them on, but some things deserve to have their history preserved, so in the end we donated the collection to a museum.

Definitely one of those finds we’ll never forget.
