We jumped on the viral 80s trend and things escalated quickly.

One minute we were two cousins making jewellery at the weekend. The next we had enough hairspray to damage the ozone layer and shoulder pads requiring their own postcode.

Then Gusmond appeared in four leg warmers, a metallic power suit and more gold chains than both of us combined.

Nobody asked him to.

Apparently Funky Lizard is now an 80s synth pop group and Gusmond has already booked the tour.

Rachel is on keyboard.

Katie is on tambourine.

Gusmond is obviously lead vocals, creative director and still CEO.

THE FOOD WAS 10/10… BUT THE PEOPLE WERE EVEN BETTER!

Today we had the absolute pleasure of spending the day with the wonderful people at aScEND Charity in Hull, and what a day it was!

We arrived with clay, cutters and a ridiculous amount of Funky Lizard paraphernalia, ready for a day of chopping, rolling, squishing, creating and baking.

And we loved every minute of it.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone at aScEND for inviting us in and making us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived.

You looked after us brilliantly, and can we talk about the FOOD?!

Honestly, if this is how you treat your visitors, we may never leave. The lunch alone deserves its own Facebook post!

We shared something we love, met some genuinely fabulous people, had plenty of laughs and watched individual ideas turn from lumps of clay into creations people could proudly say:

“I made that.”

No right way.
No wrong way.
No perfection required.

Just creativity, colour and having a go, which is exactly what Funky Lizard is all about.

So thank you, aScEND, for trusting us, feeding us VERY well, making us feel so welcome and giving us one of those days that reminds us why we love doing this.

10/10 day.
10/10 people.
10/10 food.

UPDATE FROM FUNKY LIZARD HQ… 🦎

Well… the bumbag survived its first shift. 😂
And what a shift it was!

Beverley Market — you were FABULOUS. 💖

The new banners were up, the Funky Bead Bar was looking suspiciously professional, the beads were out in force… and our state-of-the-art mobile banking facility performed beautifully. 🤣💰

We had such a brilliant day meeting so many lovely people, making bracelets, chatting all things beads and watching your creations come together. 🌈

For two women whose previous financial infrastructure consisted of an old Wall’s Soft Scoop tub, we’re feeling like we’ve had quite the glow-up. 😂

New banners. New vibe. Same slightly unhinged lizard. 🦎

A HUGE thank you to everyone who stopped, shopped, created, chatted or simply came over to see what on earth The Funky Bead Bar was all about.

We absolutely loved our first Beverley Market and we’re already hoping it won’t be long before the lizard is back! 👀🦎

BREAKING NEWS FROM FUNKY LIZARD HQ…

We knew this day would come. We just weren’t emotionally prepared for it.

After a long stint of loyal service, we’ve finally had to say goodbye to the original Funky Lizard “till” aka a Wall’s Soft Scoop ice cream tub that somehow became an essential piece of retail equipment.

It’s rattled with change, guarded our takings and travelled to more markets than any ice cream tub could reasonably expect.

But sadly, it’s now been declared no longer suitable for active duty. 🫡

We can only hope it goes on to find its third purpose in life…

Purpose 1: Ice cream

Purpose 2: Funky Lizard financial headquarters

Purpose 3: Jam jar? Meghan’s coming back to the UK… she might need somewhere to put a small-batch preserve. 👀😂

BUT… progress waits for no lizard.

Tomorrow at Beverley Market, we’ll be debuting its replacement.

We’ve spared absolutely no expense.
We’ve embraced modern technology.
We’ve gone FULL professional.

WE’VE BOUGHT A BUMBAG.

Or, for our American friends… a f***y pack. 🇺🇸🤣
