It is with the greatest sadness that we announce that Vanessa passed away peacefully on Sunday 17th November after a determined battle with cancer. She was a devoted mum to Megan, beloved daughter of Mary and Graham, adored sister to Vicki and aunt to Natasha.
Creating beautiful things and restoring well loved items gave her joy and brought delight to those who commissioned them. The world has lost a great talent.

I was highly amused by a conversation with my sister last night. I was checking how she was getting on with the baby cardigan she was knitting, which she showed me, but then the words "I got distracted by..." put in an appearance. It seems she now has three projects on the go and has bought a ball of wool "just because it looked pretty" with no idea about it's final purpose!! 🀣 My work here is complete. Cue demonic laughter!! 🀣🀣

Just a wee spot of very early morning pattern designing for a hat because I can't sleep. Hopefully Shreddies and a mug of tea will help me to nod off soon. Just a slight difference in the pattern. Which do you prefer: A or B?

Just because I can, doesn't mean I should!! πŸ™„ I was left alone with my crochet hook, some wool and my sister's cat which obviously meant that I had to make her a sun bonnet. 😊 She's daft enough to wear it too. πŸ˜†

Thank you to everyone who came along to Falkland Vintage Fayres at Strathmiglo yesterday and stopped to talk to me. It was lovely to see familiar faces, especially if you were wearing something of mine. I did spend my day knitting between customers and managed to win at yarn chicken finishing off a pair of WW2 US wristlets. Thank you so much, too, to Jules and Lyn who kept an eye out for me as I was feeling a bit below par. That's why I love this particular fayre. It's a lovely wee community who look after each other.

That's the car half packed and my card reader charging ready for an outing to my favourite fayre tomorrow. I'll probably be sitting knitting bits and pieces but it would be lovely to see you there. There are lots of other lovely stall holders there too.

These are the most expensive pair of socks I have ever made but they are definitely worth what I paid for the wool. πŸ’°The wool is from a small independent producer called Whistlebare from Northumberland. My brother-in-law and I took an accidental detour past the farm in April on our way to Lindisfarne and then we found a leaflet in the tourist section.
The wool is 80% mohair 🐐and 20% Wensleydale (sheep πŸ‘, not cheeseπŸ§€) and is amazingly soft and warm. The pattern is called Meandering Monk after St Cuthbert who spent his time at Lindisfarne. I wouldn't normally have picked this beautiful shade of green for socks but it is called Hethpool which is where our AirBNB was. A fantastic souvenir from a lovely, if chilly, family holiday near Alnick.

You might have been wondering what happened to the 579 stitches that I had on my circular needle. Well, I completed twenty-two rows on them, including nine rows of a 1940s Fair Isle pattern from a beret. And once I'd blocked it and sewn up the edges as invisibly as possible, I was left with almost three metres of knitted tape ready to use in a handfasting ceremony. My other half was represented by a vintage tent rope, as he has an obsession. πŸ˜†
Here is our finished knot from the handfasting and one of the tape in use.

Yesterday was part two of the memory bear making lessons. In short, only one got finished as my secondary sewing machine was being temperamental and caused issues.
However, my niece successfully finished her bear, even though she had to work solo from the instructions for a bit while I took a nap. I'm biased but I think she's done a fantastic job. Well done, Poppet.

This afternoon has involved lesson 1 of how to make memory bears seeing as I'm being selfish and I'm not prepared to make my own ones. πŸ˜† Both my daughter and niece were involved so there was rather a lot of blether happening. I went for a nap to escape them. πŸ™„πŸ˜ We only managed to get through choosing fabrics (it's a good job that I have a wide selection!) and then cutting the pattern pieces out, so we'll start the sewing next week.
