Thrilled about this!
👠NEW to the Museums 👢
We've recently added a lovely group of objects from Banks Lyon Shoes to our collections. For those of you who don’t know it, Banks-Lyon (also called H Banks-Lyon and J Lyon over the years) was a shoe shop on Church Street which has been part of Lancaster’s history for over 100 years.
The company was started in 1887 and moved to their shop at 42-44 Church Street in 1921 where they stayed until they sadly closed their doors at the end of last year. We were contacted by Jon & Julia, the 4th and 5th generations of the Banks-Lyon family to run and work in the business, who kindly offered to send us a range of shoes, a last (for making shoes), and some receipts to represent the company in the collections. A huge thank you goes out to them both for their generous donation.
We aren’t yet sure exactly when the shoes all come from, but they appear to range from the Edwardian period through to the 1980s or 90s; there’s a bit more research to do.
